I have played every edition of D&D, and I think 5e is just brilliant. The perfect balance of complexity and ease of use, it plays fast and doesn't bog down in minutia, while still giving plenty of tactical options to make things unpredictable. 9.5/10.
I second this.

Were it not for my wife I would still probably have a daunting pile of DF looking for paint.
I'd love to see how they turned out, post some pics!

Damn, by '81 I had been playing for 6 years (and I only started when I got to college in '75), you can do the math. Still have my old 3 volume white box set as well. So I guess that makes me even older...but still very happily playing with my toys...

Well if you've been playing since you were 81, I'd say you might be old.
To state the obvious: 1981, less than halfway to being 81 though :P.

Amazing work... hell, has me considering selling my painted burrows and buying an unpainted set so I can do it myself.

Originally from Puerto Rico... spent my middle school-college years in Baton Rouge, LA, and currently live in Huntsville, AL. Been playing D&D since 81.

I know this might sound nuts, since caverns are indoors... but I wouldn't mind it being snow so I can use it for outdoor stuff as well.

I am going completely unpainted Do you have experience with large-scale painting? I've done an entire massive order of DF unpainted and its a heroic undertaking. Its going to be especially difficult with the massive variety of colors needed for the set you're looking at, so its not just a matter of...

Re: Non-Slip building surface

I've had felt on my older 5x10 fly table since 1992. I've had to replace it once- and that was for wear, not stains. And I've had about 15 kids, starting at age 12, playing RPG around that table for 9 years - as well as regular wargames. Mine was a home-made table that we put felt cloth on and it d...
