I think the issue with the LED's Walls, is that there are plug ins to light up, much like the torches would be. However, much of the lighting effects in SF settings is internal to walls or items so the LEDs would have to be more like the crystals for the Caverns, and completely built into the tile. ...

I suspect the opening round issues only created hassle for early adopters. As a rule early adopters will jump throw hoops for the latest whiz-bang. Looks like this was tracking the normal progression and not hindered by opening day glitches. IMHO, it probably has a lot more to do with customer bias...
