Quick follow up - the ceramic daisy-style palettes typically found in the Sumi section of an art store are also very highly recommended. They have a very good weight to them and are easy to clean.

I've been using porcelain palettes for years when not using a wet palette. They don't bounce around on my work surface like plastic or tin ones.
