The Medieval Building Set looks awesome and adds an exciting new element to what we can build with Dwarven Forge. I'm very excited about it, and I'm planning on ordering at least three sets to start with, and another set or two soon after.

The set looks good and will allow me to put together a nice initial village.

In conjunction with the narrow passages 4 way intersection, it will allow a nice raised house look as well. I went light with cavernous lakes, so that I could afford the mystery set and have ordered 3 sets.

Now we just need those 2nd floor landings and stairs. In the meantime, a couple popsicle sticks will work well for exposed beams/rafters.

Good job!!

Here's something I just realized -- and this means a HUGEOUS thank you to Stefan --

NO PASSAGES!!!!

I like the passages, I really do -- the SF passages are really neat to look at, and some of the coolest details in the DoE set are in the passages. But I tend to prefer setting things up without them, since it just means more table space gets used, and it feels more efficient.

And so I felt like part of my DoE $ was going to pieces I wasn't going to use...

But the Medieval Building Set does not include passages! It is just solid room elements, and that is a fantastic, fantastic thing. If it had been 30-40% passages (let alone more) I probably would only have ordered one, because I just couldn't see amassing a large collection of rarely-used pieces. But this way, I got 2 and I may come back for more later.

So -- thanks for hearing us, Stefan! I know some people love passages, but a few of us at least have been vocal about moving away from them, and I'm really glad we got our wish!

Wow! Very cool--I'd requested a set like this last summer--who knew my dreams would come true? Unfortunately, I don't think I can afford any sets--though getting three is so very tempting because of the awesome furniture bonus.

Truth be told, my gaming life went to hell right after I got my 5 DoE sets--they never saw ANY use, unlike the sci-fi sets. Part of that is an 8 month lapse in all gaming activity, but the other part now that we're gaming again is due to switching from the more tactical, combat-based d20 system to the more roleplaying, simulation-based d100 HarnMaster system--a system so realistic and deadly you're far better off using your brain than your sword in 90% of all potential combat situations, LOL.

But I AM TEMPTED. I love my DF sets and don't regret the purchase so much as the lack of opportunity to use 'em... If any set was gonna lure me back (besides the Wicked Additions restock), it's the Medieval buildings one.

"To buy or not to buy--THAT is the question!" ;-)

You know what would be really awesome? "Stained glass windows" to insert in the window openings. I'm sure there are some plastic sheets of this somewhere out there I could find. If anybody knows of a good source, please let me know. I plan on adding some sort of window coverings to my sets.

Stefan--here's another idea that would just totally kick ass: Pub & Shop signs. They could be generic so collectors could either paint on their own emblems and names or put inkjet/laser jet emblems and names on them. You might even add one that is pre-painted with the "The Dwarven Forge" on it (name and logo). We'd have something to mount on the outside of the establishments created with these MBS sets.

;-}~

I also posted about stained-glass windows on another post. I think this is going to be a highly asked for item in addition to timber posts, fireplaces, stairs, etc..
I haven't gotten off my duff to go look for it, but someone had posted some very awesome pictures of a DF-Converision where they butchered an out-of-print set to collect the stained glass windows and put them into DF walls (where they had carefully cut out frames for them). The look was just fantastic. Also, they weren't just square, they came to a point at the top.

I like the sign idea. I think it would be great if users could print their own signs and slip them into the frame for a sign. Perhaps the same could be done with windows at some point.

Yes, I'll be buying about 3 sets - some time. Currently, I'm speding more monthly than I make so most purchases will have to wait - perhaps for another three years until my wife is working again. However, I will probably buy one set (or another cavernous passage set?) so I can make use of the coupon persons who pre-ordered the CR&W set received.

I'm working on my fourth-ever setup right now, involving all the cavernous river and cavern sets I have. I currently own 3 CR&W sets but could definately use another 3 and the opportunity to buy individual pieces.

It looks great! The furnishings and accesorries really make the set. It makes it so tempting to order 3 sets to get the free accessories, but I just don't know if I can afford it (and if I do I definately won't be able to get the second Walls and River set I was considering.)

Stained glass inserts are easy. There are numerous pictures of them on the Internet.

Save as a picture, photoshop then down to the size you need, brighten them a little and print on transparency film. Taa Daa!

I have to wait until the end of AUgust to order my 3 sets. I just bought a suppressor which set me back about $1100. bleh

Looks great! 3 on order for now. Though the example pictures make me think I'll be tempted to pick some up at GenCon also.

One question... what is being used for the 'street' between the buildings?

I bought two sets.

I wanted three but with shipping it killed my 300.00 non-negotiable budget.

Thoughts: Terrific! For years I have been using Miniature Building Authority buildings (MBA) and then using normal dungeons to display the rooms at double the scale of the town set-up. Now they are going to look terrific and I can use the dungeons for basements, which lead to cavernous passages, to caverns to lakes...

Really, this is a very useful set. Hats off to yee! Oh, and with the painted bar from MBA (I noticed that the bartender from that set in is the newsletter) I'll be all set.

And with the brilliant forgers on this forum the ideas wont stop! Thanks Dwarven Forge.

It's brilliant!

The only sad thing is that I can't afford to buy even one set. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
