I thought we could already chat using the current forum? If I and a person are are online at the same time his latest posts appear highlighted to me on the threads and so I can jump to them and respond? This has happened the odd time?

A chat feature wouldn't do any harm but I don't think I would use it. I guess it depends on how much work it is for the DF gang?

Hmmm... This is a surprisingly tough question to answer... Well, for me it is.

On the one hand; it seems like it might be a significantly under-used feature. Which in and of itself might not be a big deal, but seeing as DF would need to (theoretically)maintain and possibly even moderate the chat it might be cost/time prohibitive.

However, as patoumonde points out, as a promotional tool, where we might get to participate in live discussions with DF celebs, I could really see a chat feature as being desirable.

Perhaps a middle ground where the chat was only accessible at certain times (such as during a scheduled event)when DF staff was going to be around to Moderate anyway.

Regardless, for simple hanging out on the forum and chatting with other DF fans, the basic forum posts are sufficient for me. Frankly I had not noticed a loss of PM functionality, which I know that we did have at one point in the past.

Good topic DnDGamer...

I think the chat feature would become interesting if DF used it as a promotion tool. It would be nice if they organized theme nights where we could talk with Stephan about sculpting technics or when a new product is developped and they want to promote it using a chat night with the staff. Or just talking about futur product and such. Just some things special.

Chat features become interesting when they have a purpose and just having it for the fun of it wouldnt be worth it.

I think.

The thing I don;t like about chat features is the way they crowd the rest of the message board. However, DDMSpoilers recently added chat and I do find it nice to once and awhile *chime in* or even to simply read what others are chattign about. I have to admit that, even though I was against it at first, adding the chat to DDMSpoilers has made it an even nicer place to psend time, despite the *crowding* of the forums....

I think you're right Jack! The Chat Feature might be a little too much considering how many forum members are online at any given time. I too, haven't seen more than 4- or 5-people logged-in at a time but there HAVE been days when I would have liked to "PM" someone just to ask a quick question instead of posting.

I also think this feature would be great for "Guests", especially for those visiting for the first time who may want to ask a few questions about DF sets.

I'm sure DF will consider all pros and cons and come to a good decision.

I'm sure others may have some perspective on this feature and we'd love to hear it...so post your comments.

Okay, I'll bite. But remember, I'm old and stodgy and your interweb frightens and confuses me.

I'm not a fan of chat features. I don't think I've seen more than four registered users on the forums at the same time (new website), so I don't know how useful a chat feature would be here.

I would like to see personal messages (PM) added to the forums, for those private sideline conversations. They aren't real time, but they'll do in a pinch.

WOULD YOU LIKE A CHAT FEATURE?

I was thinking it might be nice to have someway of "chatting" with fellow Forum members either in public or private sessions -- especially when we can now see who's online.

Is there anyone else who'd like this feature as part of this Forum? More importantly does anyone know if it CAN be done and safely.

I wonder if admin would even consider adding this feature to their website? Would it be safe...I'd hate to have the site down 'cause some idiot wants to test the site's security!

Just my thoughts...what are yours?
