Hi AnimeSensei,

Looks great. The build gives me a good jungle feeling.
I ask myself why “we” play not more jungle settings in “our” rpg.... :?:

Here are the journal pages they found; the person that sent them to find A'lea was Maylin.

Great work ASensei - liking all the color of that jungle and shrine. Very nice! Fits the theme of magical mutated plants etc ... maybe some sort of lizard folk ceremony is behind the ever-encroaching jungle spread  Love the setting!

Great change in scenery, love how it all turned out.

Who knew Thavel was a nation of evil Shriner's.
I'm sure the 'counter'/'hats' help in play, but they are kind of funny looking.

Thanks for posting, can't wait to read/see more.

Great stuff!

Your jungle ruins and flora are good motivation for me to finish up all my jungle bits...

Jungle Campaign

Post by AnimeSensei » Tue Jan 22, 2019 3:55 pm

So my group has decided to move on from our city campaign (https://www.dwarvenforge.com/forum/view ... =13&t=8121) and we are now adventuring with new characters in a new setting. They liked the world enough to have continue to DM within it, though we are now on a different continent and a new country. Behold, the nation of Thavel!

With my last adventure, I had a very in-depth write up of the campaign. I haven't decided if I'm going to go to those depths again or just do a general outline, but for now I'm going to keep it shorter.

The PCs started at 3rd level; I had them root out and fight vampires in an estate with a theater of the mind night as we rolled up characters.

The nation of Thavel is located on a southern continent and is densely covered in forests and jungles; many of the areas are so lush that they hold strange magics that warp creatures and plants, causing giant growths and strange mutations. The populace must work constantly to keep the forest at bay, lest they lose their cities to ruin (and there are plenty of ruins!). There is a high disparity between the rich and the poor; most of the poor live outside city walls and work ceaselessly to stay alive while facing the dangers of the forest and keeping their livelihood clear of the encroaching trees and vines.

The PCs meet a woman who is looking for a group to go locate her partner, a Drow named A'lea. A'lea is an archaeologist and went with her research associate and two guides to find the "Temple of the Two Fires." She was looking for an ancient magical artifact called the Jade Star. The party hires a kobold guide and heads into the forest to find her. They hear rumors of lizardfolk at the ruins, so they approach carefully. They make it to the ruins after a day of travel and find a human male dead on the altar of the temple, freshly slain. They are cautious and eventually hear lizardfolk behind the temple rummaging through some packs.

The lizardfolk spot the PCs and attack! The party is able to defeat them, however the party cleric and brawler are knocked unconscious in the battle.

The party goes to look at what the lizardfolk were rummaging through and discover some packs left by A'lea's party. There are drag marks to a hole nearby. As the PCs investigate and send a flare down in the hole to get a good look, giant ants attack!

The party follows the burrowed tunnels down until they find the giant ant queen and defeat her and her ant soldiers.

The PCs find what the ants had drug down, A'lea's backpack which contains many of her supplies and her journal. It details her research on the temple site, drawings of the glyphs on the temple, and mention of more ruins closeby on a cliff. There is also a quickly written page mentioning the lizardfolk attack and saying she is going towards the cliffs.
