Very nice indeed. And a great idea that I can imagine being implemented in several possible ways. Not the least of which might be a few fragmented wall sections scattered about a grassy area--thus suggesting more ruins below the surface!

I only used one Ruins set -- the rest are regular pieces, I can't really track all their origins at this point. Some WA2 and WA3, I know, and some regular room bits.

Here I used the same pieces to experiment with what the ruins can do. I really like the super-long diagonal collapse.

Thanks for sharing

A wonderful set-up. Looking forward to my sets. I hope they arrive today (and on Saturday I will fly out to the US to actually collect them).
Just glad they still arrived in time.

Wow - those really look great and enhance the regular sets just like you said!

Such a simple idea, yet so incredibly useful - thanks Jeff!!!

Small ruins setup

Post by Law » Wed Sep 08, 2010 10:19 am

OK, this is just me experimenting. I noticed that the preview pics didn't do something I really wanted to see, which is place the extra ruined wall elements on TOP of regular walls to make even higher walls, with gradual ruination.

In general, since the preview pics were showing off the new set, they understandably focused on maximizing the number of new pieces in the setup, but I find that the ruins really work best as an accent on regular dungeon pieces. Just take a normal layout and replace a few wall sections with ruins and it looks AWESOME.

I like the symmetry of the design, something I hadn't noticed until I started messing around with it. Some walls/corners have the short, ruined wall on one side, some on the other -- so you can "flank" a regular wall to get a more natural look. Or, you can place the two ruined pieces right next to each other. They all have a "natural" link to a piece that should go next to them. I can see how multiples of this set would really exponentially increase its utility. It's a hidden WA3 set, in my mind, even though it went by another name.

Anyhoo - enjoy the pics!
