...ooh, I forgot to say something about dry brushing!

The tiles originally coming with the ROTA sets are quite dark already! For my ROTA repaint, since I did not want the color between the tiles to change (to match the "mortar" from the tiles I would not repaint) and since I wanted to use very light and bright colors, I had to do a white dry brushing over all the 3 primary colors pieces before painting the final colors over it. This is because light colors (light blue, light green, yellow and so on...) let a lot of the color underneath go through. There is no way around it, these are laws of physics that apply unless you do 30 separate coats of them (I would strongly advise against that for that many tiles). Having a white undercoat makes the light colors appear much more vivid. For dry brushing, you need another brush that has no sharp end. Instead, it should have a roundish appearance with all bristles ending at different places. This is because after putting paint on the brush, you have to remove very nearly all of it by brushing very hard on a piece of newspaper or something similar.
How about a broad, flat brush for drybrushing? I do that when I drybrush, which is darn rarely.
Seems like a brush with a very broad flat tip would work.

Here are close ups of the actual pieces.

This one is my attempt at reproducing the promo piece that I miss my chance buying:

The next 3 have been painted with the eventual possibility of using them in different parts of a dungeon to represent the 3 primary colors: Blue, Green and Red. Perhaps 3 separate challenges being addressed in each of those rooms could be issued to the players? Finally, I had a lot of fun trying to have an original design for the coloring pattern. I think the end result is quite good...

Biowizard, I saw these and I immediately thought of the tavern in Ostia Antica (the original port of Rome during the Empire) as it was back in the day.
These are astonishingly good. Thank you. Not that' I'll ever try...my hand isn't steady enough to connect these dotS!

It always warms my heart to see this thread bumped.

Could you guys believe that in the last 7 years since I painted those, we got to use the pieces only once for gaming purposes? They are beautiful but perhaps too beautiful for generic D&D use. But then, I'm not the DM.

I had lost the original pictures for those.
I just made new photographs of those unique and precious pieces!

Biowizard that is some truly outstanding work. Well thought out and the result is captivating.
