I have an earth green Hotzmat with implied squares on it. They do some treatment to the felt to avoid pilling, like you would get with a roll of felt from Joanne's. But it is a significant investment. I like mine for outdoor terrain.

Thanks! The pics are super helpful. Using a gridded mat to represent the wilderness with Dwarven Forge pieces set up as buildings on it is a great idea. It definitely would make the mat more than just something to help hold my DF pieces in place.

Pegasus just started distributing some mats. I got one from a vendor at a recent local convention. He said they had just started putting them out and he had only gotten two. It is neoprene like a mouse pad, measures 4x6 feet, and is two sided (grass and dirt). I can't vouch for how well it will hold up over time since it is a new product, but I like it so far. It went for 100 USD, which I thought was a fair price.

Or use drawer liners that works well too.

Just go to a Jo-Anne's (or any fabric store) and buy a few yards of black felt (or cheaper version).
Should be cheaper than a mat. ;)

EDIT- They also have many colors and mixed colors like camouflage.

Which color Hotz Mat to pair with Classic Dungeon sets?

I've been getting annoyed with how my DF pieces slide around the table top. A popular solution seems to be using one of the felt gaming mats from Hotz Mats underneath the DF.

http://www.hotzmats.com/felt_purchase_mat.html

The question, though, is which color to get? Originally I was thinking "Urban Grey", but then I took a closer look at the pieces and realized that they're actually pretty green/brown. So maybe "Earth Green" would be better?

What do folks here use? Pics showing the mats in use would be particularly helpful!
