Test: Fogger vs LED

Post by stenfisker » Sat Apr 10, 2021 6:50 am

A few people on Facebook have been asking about foggers vs LEDs, so I decided to conduct a little experiment. I used a Sfx Fog Monster filled with normal H20 and a Dungeon of Doom LED Socket Floor (with a DoD LED Eldritch Obelisk mounted). I placed the lit LED in my kitchen sink and switched on the fogger. I ran the fogger at full throttle for 90 minutes. After the 90 minutes the LED was still working (picture 4). Afterwards I opened up the socket floor and it was completely dry inside (picture 5). On the outside the LED pieces were very wet. There did not appear to be any damage to the factory paint.
I will still remain a bit cautious when running the fogger next to my LEDs, but at least with this type of LED, there does not seem to be any real problems. :D

EDIT: I am unsure if this is the right place to post this ? Please relocate if necessary...

First, this is as good a place as any to post this thread.

Second thanks for running the experiment, your results are encouraging. I will still be rather careful using fogger and light panels too close together however with that live current running in them.

Third, extremely clever to think of using your kitchen sink as the test chamber. I am sure some of us would have spent a few hours constructing some sort of chamber or holding tank for the experiment and would be slapping our heads at seeing your brilliant solution! :o :)

I used a steampod horizontally for several hours on top of a light panel aimed toward catacombs LEDs and had no problems this weekend.

Looks cool, glad the steam is not a problem... :)
But, where are those two crypts from? They fit very nicely in with the D.F. 8-)

The crypts are from wizkids graveyard set. The tops are removable. I use them quite a lot.

Wow! That is quite the set up. Good to hear the moisture did not affect the LEDs.

Fab work Sten :)

Outrageous use of a sink when we spend ages piling up barriers to keep our fog at home;)

We found that when using not so water proof LEDS with our foggers you do get a lot of moisture collecting, but does not seem to have any affect.

We just make sure everything is thoroughly dry before putting away

We put together a very rough video with DF build, a Fog Monster and a Dark Crypt. It shows how much fog was billowing out next to the Lighted Brazier LEDS.
