These are all great suggestions, but I'd just be happy seeing them restock the original.

I have 3 sets of catacombs (one on order from europe DF store) - I expect I will want a minimum of 2 expansions. I have 3 DOE (2 passages and 1 room) and 2 DOE expansions/3 DOE wickeds.

On limited edition runs, I tend to order the same number of each set, basic and expansions.

On the permanent lines (dungeon, MBS, caverns) I am trying to get a couple of basic sets, then as many of each expansion as I think I need to use that set's pieces to full advantage, then any additional basic sets as I need to fill in the gaps. I'm not done yet, so I can't offer any actual numbers.

I agree. Catacombs Expansion is the set I'm the most stoked and excited about. What I've seen so far looks very good.

Caverns - I already own 40+ sets from this range so I may buy some of the new pieces if you can get these without having to buy lots of normal floor/walls/corners pieces.

Sewers. Excited about these too but they seem a long way off as the caverns is going to be the next kickstarter.

Frog - your query re the ratios. I find if very much depends on the set. For the medieval buildings and the Den of Evil ranges, I went for 1:1 ratios of basic set to expansion set. With regard to catacombs - it'll have to wait until we see exactly what you get. As I have 4 sets of the original Catacombs, I know that I'll want between 2 and 4 sets of the Catacombs Expansion.

I think the explanation is a rather simple one. From what we can see, it's a T-shaped layout. The distance across the "arms" of the T appears to be 16 inches (assuming that it's symmetric) -- an even number. Certainly the width of the trunk of the T is 6 inches -- another even number. However, since 16 - 6 = 10, and 10 / 2 = 5, we have 5 inches on each arm of the T. When working with a template based on 2-inch pieces, that leaves an odd inch on each side.

I took it to be even simpler -- they wanted the new fountain piece centrally placed where the room opens up. If you were willing to put the fountain clearly on one side or the other, you would be able to do this without the extra non-Catacombs 1-inch piece. But to place the fountain centrally, they left a half-square on either side and needed to fill it up.

That's the problem I have with some of the larger pieces -- it's purely aesthetic. Sometimes, placing them precisely where I want is tricky. I don't particularly like messing around with the ABS pieces, though I'm glad DF makes them for people who want to be able to build that precisely. But for me, "not being able to do it" is about as disappointing as "you can do it, but it means taking out ANOTHER set and keeping track of a ton of small, highly-technical-use pieces."

But that's just me -- I love DF, and I'm glad they make enough for everyone's tastes.

I am really looking forward to the official photos from this set! Looks like it's gonna be specatcular!

So who is going to let us know what the secret feature of the skull-fountain and wall firepit is?

I speculated in the other thread where the pic was first shown that it will be multiple LEDs. Basically I think you will be able to hit a switch that makes the color change from orange flames to blue magical fire or something.

I recently noticed that Dwarven Forge Europe has Catacombs in stock. I really should buy a bunch. If you think about it, the US prices will be going up by $30 a set according to the survey recently sent out. Thus it running you around $200 a set to get shipped from the UK is not a bad deal at all. The US prices will be $180 per set plus it would run you a good $40 to get 5 sets shipped anyway. If you look at the UK prices it seems high but if you email him direct he subtracts the 16% VAT fee which puts the price right at $150 like the US price was.

I really need to do that since demand will probably be insane when Catacombs2 ships. I've heard from some other threads it only takes like a week to get to you as well.

How many expansion sets do you guys usually buy to supplement your main sets? Like say how many Realms of Ancients 2 would you buy to supplement Realms of Ancients 1? Speaking of Realms of Ancients...he has those in stock too!

I just have to say that, as with all things DF, these pieces are even more impressive in person than in pictures. It was pretty funny when Stefan revealed this room, the game ground to a halt as everyone jumped up from their chairs to see the new pieces. I can't wait for the next catacombs set!!!

@ Law and biowizard - you guys apparently rolled better on your perception check than I did. I didn't even notice the corner piece until another player pointed it out. I guess that just speaks to how smoothly everything fits together. :)

Thanks for the re-post Frog, I also missed this early preview picture...

Great to see some interesting new pieces, just hope we do not have to add pieces from other ranges into this to make a set-up. I personally do not want to have to mix my Advanced Builder sets with any Catacombs set. Would spoil some of the feel of having a bespoke set type for an area.

Interested in the outer curve part as per biohazard's highlight. Interesting way to make a corner 'seamless'.
I wonder if this will become a standard.
A whole new look that improves upon slightly 'open cracker line' corners before this point ??
Builds will be more challenging & rewarding.
