early bird battle: 4 verdant tree sets plus 1 autumn foliage set, and a battle mat add-on.

Wanted the pond accessories and bushes, but need to save for ks6.66

Went for an EB War + some extra in PM. Mostly Verdant Forest (green) but since I do not have much previous terrain I choose a bit of everything to get a good mix.

For the rocks, there should be no problem at all.
For the trees, I am not sure how stable the base is. They surely can be placed on, and I don't think there should be much difference from a normal flat mat, maybe you can't place them just everywhere, but maybe you'll need to move their placement 1 cm from where you wanted them, if that exact spot has too rough texturing.

I will try and take a picture with something on, just soonish, I can't today...
Thanks for the info and all the pics! That was super helpful :)

Well, I was wrong, I could find the time.

I attach some pictures with a Rough Mat (scrubby) with:
- Sir for Scale by Reaper
- a D&D prepainted mini
- an Amazon tree, sometimes used by some DF posters
- a Schleich tree
- a stone patch
- a stonish rock
- a couple DF Cavern pieces.

I know it is hard to judge from pictures, but easier than just imagining it :-)

Does anyone here use those WarSigil mats? I'm curious how raised their textures are - and whether these monster trees and rocks would sit flat on them!
I've got one of their Rough Mats (the ones without turf) and one of the Surf Mats (water ones).

They are made of a kind of canvass, painted and with texturing (think flocking and gravel).

For the rocks, there should be no problem at all.

I think I'm going with 2x 22"x30" gridded for tactical battles and to be put on those boards I use. And one larger one for a more scenic build, 3x4 would fit perfect across 2 of the boards I use on our table, that would have to be non-gridded, and would work better for the more aesthetic big setup.

If I ever did a big wargame type setup, I'd either get a 4x6 (from these guys or somewhere else) or another 3x4 and lay them back to back. The graphics mostly work, I tested it out in photoshop.

Anyway, this is it until I change my mind. :)

I've got a decent set from the conventions, although the con sets are not quite as robust as the KS versions.
I've currently got (con resin versions)
6 Verdant Trees (4 small 2 big)
6 Autumn Trees (4 small 2 big)
Various Gray rocks, 1 big, 1 medium and lots of various smaller pieces
1 Barricades sets (minus the 2 door pieces)
8 Stalagmites (not offered in KS, not sure why, they are cool pieces)
Various stumps and dead ground trees

Gonna add KS:
1 Blossoming Forest Set
1 Twilight Forest Set
1 Foliage Set - Verdant Green
1 Barren Hills set
1 Barren Ground set
Combo - Pond x2
Combo - 1 Emerald, 1 Sapphire Crystals
Combo - Verdant Green Bushes x2
1 Tree stand (so 2 total with KS freebie)

Overall a nice selection and buy in.

I want to get a couple play mats but having a really hard time deciding which kind and size? I currently use Flipmats with grids a lot as the ground base, especially outdoor scenes but the grid always looks a little wonky.

I keep thinking not to get grids because it looks better and just use the "wargame" style 1 inch = grid play, which we've done before just fine for outdoor encounters. Since 5e is more loosey goosey on tactical combat it's never been an issue.

My game table is 4x8, and figure 1 foot for DM, so 4x7 play space. We don't really wargame (although I keep thinking I will one day!) so 4x6 is not practical. I was thinking maybe 2 3x3s or 2 3x4s?

I have the black movable boards I made for setups that are 26x40, so you can get 2 long ways and 3 short ways on the table. They can be picked up and exchanged during gameplay if you keep a build to the side. It would be good to still have that flexibility with the mats. Only 22x30 would fit on one of those, I'd get 3 I suppose. Tough call...

No crystals for us, just trees, trees, a well, some rocks, some dead trees, some ladders, bushes and some more dead trees.
Bummer about so few trees. :(
Got a few coming later this year :D

Just wanted a few trees for some variation, the non verdant coloured trees did not appeal, though totally get in a DnD environment that they would work, magic trees an all :D and if we need some we got 9 Plastic GW trees unbuilt and unpainted that can be tasked for that purpose.

I keep adding as the day goes on. I think the 6'x4' mat may be too big, especially with players and drinks/food.

Went with 2x 3'x3' mats with grids and 1x 4'x3' mat without a grid. I'll just put the 3'x3' ones side by side if needed.
I think I might cut my 4'x6' in half,... then one half in half again,... then one half in half again,...,...,... . ;)
Now just do the same for your hellscape pledge and you might actually eat next month.
