Yes they had all this planed ahead of time. With the ship then the adventure to follow. Got to hand it to them. Unlike what Paizo does when they release a new AP then 6 months to a year later the miniatures that will go with it when you don't need the miniatures now haha.
It is always funny/sad to me how close Paizo comes to getting it right...

Flip mats, minis, adventures and they just cannot get production times to line up - so many missed opportunities

Probably not a coincidence this is coming out soon.
Yeah that timing is definitely deliberate! Though with my campaign kicking off in just a couple weeks, it would be nice to have that new "robust set of rules for managing a nautical campaign" in hand already...

Good point - forgot to mention the underside of the model! It's mostly open under there, with some space taken up by support structures. Would probably be easiest to pre-set the deck if it doesn't need to fit underneath the model.

"Cat-astrophe" has struck!

Thank you for the great pictures and analysis. It's super tempting for some potential future nautical D&D game, but budget and space won't allow me to grab it now.

It is possible to disassemble the main ship and flip the main deck. As you can see in the underbelly shots, the other side is the same, just without a 1" grid overlay on it. Both of the lower decks are two sided, with a grid overlay on one side. Pretty much any gaming use will stick with the grid overlay, but I could see someone making more of a display situation wanting to flip the deck over. Not sure how easy it is to remove all the parts holding it in, but it should not be too hard.

The main deck is pretty much locked in since there are all the stairs at both ends on top of it and the supports in the plastic frame below to support the deck and the magnetic attachments for the masts. There is enough room under the plastic hull to preload the upper deck with guns and cargo and critters if you wanted to and then just lift and move the ship to reveal them. I have not checked the vertical height between the revealed forecastle and stern locations, but as expected on a ship, they might be tight to have some minis standing in there. I do plan on playing around with mine a bunch some weekend sometime soon and will capture what I learn.

Welcome to the forums hunter_something :)

The cat picture made us laugh until we saw 'Cat for sale'

Then laughed even harder

Can you place cannon below decks in the gun ports ?
and how many ports ?
Thanks! Happy to be here!

The ship comes with two boards for lower-deck combat. They could fit exactly under the ship, so you could lift the ship off to access them, or you could just fly them in as needed.

Also, on the ship itself, the captain's cabin & forecastle can both be revealed by lifting out the quarter deck and forecastle deck respectively.

There's 6 gun ports on each side, 12 total.
