Have you priced Legos? Especially sets like ships that are large enough for gaming?

And if you already have them... why not use them?

I can’t get over how many people still use LEGO for gaming while using DF. As much as I appreciate the modularity of it, I don’t see the reasoning behind using it while spending the ridiculous amounts of cash on the aesthetics of DF. If one is going to spend the amount of money that DF requires, then buy a nice ship and ditch the LEGO.

Just my two cents, and I admit they’re snobby. The contrast in systems is simply too jarring for my tastes. To each their own I suppose.

Re: D&D Icons of the Realms ship - LEGO!!

Very nice ship, but for the money - and more important, storage room - I can get an 85% as nice for gaming ship from LEGO, and be able to break it down and store it.

I have 7 LEGO ships built (from when the Offspring were younger, at home and very into LEGO) - and enough parts for probably two more. They are slightly large for 25mm, but 28mm is reasonable.

ADVANTAGES:
Get exactly the ship I want each time / Configure it for easy access inside and out / build the insides as I need to.
DISADVANTAGES: A little big. Sometimes you don't have enough brix of the right color to make the hull exactly as you like it.

Bah. I'll stick to LEGO!

But it is a nice job.

Have to admit that ship looks awesome :)

Trying to figure where we could store such a beast.
Fuggedabowdit. No room in even a Lagomorph Warren for such a monster.

Just think how much you would have spend on DF tiles to cover that many sq inches of shipness and the pain goes down. (albeit only a little bit.) :)

the front and back decks are difficult to take out unless you turn the entire ship upside down. So if you have minis on the ship and someone goes inside a cabin it creates a slight issue.
If you open the doors, you can poke a finger in and pop the floors up from underneath. Of course, that means leaving the doors open just enough you can get hold of them to pull them open.

Other than that, it's pretty darn awesome. I don't know if it's $250 awesome, but it's definitely fun.
Agreed. It's cool, but I'm very glad I pre-ordered to save $50. Even at $200 it is expensive.

I only have a few complaints and they are minor.

The wheel doesn't seem to turn. ☹️

The center deck doesn't come off, and the front and back decks are difficult to take out unless you turn the entire ship upside down. So if you have minis on the ship and someone goes inside a cabin it creates a slight issue.

The doors seem a little fragile.

Other than that, it's pretty darn awesome. I don't know if it's $250 awesome, but it's definitely fun.
