Yea the white is the most neutral but I like the green set, just gives it some color. In my village they dye their stuff green to more easily blend into the surrounding forest in case they need to flee a rampaging giant. The new d&d giant mouth of grolantor has pumpkins on his hands and smashed on his face; would go well with this set for a story.

If I where to get just one set I would also just go with the white. It looks more natural.

I got mine as singles from RPGLocker, so each of the five is a different color.

I bought the White Expansion ones as I thought they looked most peasant like.

If I were to pick up one set, which colors look the best in a typical Dwarven Forge CBS environment?

I have them too and may even pick up a second color - great sculpt and paint job on them IMHO.

Those of you wanting some prepainted townsfolk minis might like these. They are for the Agricola board game. Picked it up from my LCS today and they really look pretty good. Might have to repaint the bases though. Other colors available.

I have them all. All of mine came with black bases so no repaint needed.
