Howdy!

I have a bunch of suggestions - cause I have a bunch of different mats:

1) Broken Egg Games: http://www.brokenegggames.com/adventure ... r-set.html

I like their products because I also get the tree tiles that match, then I place trees on the mats and when we are picking up and moving the trees around for models - we know where they are supposed to go back. These mats are like mouse pad material, nylon laminated to rubber backing so they lie very flat and don't slide around on a table. Good colors, good quality mats.

Downsides: Expensive and 30x30 is their biggest mat. Needs to be rolled into a tube.

2) Break from Reality Games: http://bfrgames.storenvy.com/

I really like their mats. These folks got a bunch of bad breaks and bad press over their very very late Kickstarter, but once they delivered - wow. These mats are really fantastic. They are a little bit stiffer material than most other mats, but that's a huge benefit because they lay on the table without wrinkles.

They also really do "grip" without being sticky in any fashion - stuff just kind of stays in place. You can also order them with or without hex or square grids. I highly recommend them.

Downsides: 24" wide is the widest they can go for some mats, however you can put 2 or more side by side and the seam pretty much disappears. Needs to be rolled into a tube.

3) Cigar Box Battle mats: http://www.cigarboxbattle.com/

These folks really are super and they have great customer service. The mats are nice and big 4'x6' and have nicely finished edges. They are fleece cloth mats with the colors vibrant and sharp. They (so far) are durable and hold up very well to heavy use. I have 6 or 7 of their mats and love them all. They travel well because they are light and pack well.

I absolutely adore their Grassland Plush mat - oh man. It is a thing of beauty on the table. The "plush" is like a heavy fleece jacket material- it's quite a thick mat. The grass can actually be brushed in different directions for different effects. Love it.

All their mats can also be just folded up and put in a box.

Downsides: Expensive (but I think they are worth every penny). Can get wrinkled if stored crammed up - it's cloth.

4) Game Matz: http://www.gamematz.com/

I have one of their space mats for X-wing - and for that it's fine. But I don't really like it for gaming in general - they are vinyl. Like a vinyl banner material. The printing looks good and the mat looks good on a table, but the vinyl is slippery plastic. It is light though, super light to carry around.

Downsides: The plastic surface.

5) The F.A.T. mat: http://www.tablewar.com/the-f-a-t-mat/

To be fair - I do not own any of their products, but I have played on them and friends own them. These are pretty cadillac mats - heavy duty mouse pad material - nylon laminated to a rubber backing. These folks have large mats with lots of different designs. They also come with their own tube carrying/storage case. These are really nice mats.

Downsides: They put their huge logo in the corner.

6) Hotz Mats: http://www.hotzmats.com/

I have used the Hotzmats as well, they are felt, like pool or poker table felt. They use super dense and tight felt for durability - these mats are made to last for ages. The colors are nice and they do a good job with the art. I just find this mat doesn't get used very often anymore. You can get them to put hexes or squares on the mat.

Downsides: The felt gets fold wrinkles in it overtime if you don't put in in a tube - like mine does now. Those fold wrinkles are hard to get rid of and hide on a table - they are very noticable. The wait time was months when I ordered, though this was years ago and it is hopefully better now.

I hope that helps! :D

For all my mats that need to be rolled up you can get/aquire carrying cases very easily. Those cheap camping/beach chairs that are like hammocks. You unfold them and sit in the cloth sling. Folks are always breaking the chairs - but the carrying case they come in make great cases for a lot of these mats. Throw the broken chairs away but keep the case. :)

Peace

I ordered two of the double-sided FAT Mat recently with a single GEO mat and am quite happy:

The GEO Mat is nice because you can put it over anything. So while the basic ones are nice, with the GEO I can get fabric to cover more solid scenarios. Need an airship battle? BOOM. Buy some cloud fabric.

I have not tried these, but I saw them recommended on a D&D FB post and their prices seem pretty reasonable. I'm looking to pick a couple of them up at some point:

Need a playmats to go with my DF tiles.

Post by jgt4242 » Fri May 04, 2018 7:03 pm

At first I wanted to customize some DF tiles to do outdoors stuff, but we just bought a new house and my wallet getting dry.

I'm thinking about investing into a playmat, but don't know wich one to get, there's many out there.
I absolutly want one with 1 inch sqaure seperation right on it, to go with my DF tiles. Also, quality is a must.

Any suggestions?
