Maulhelm,

I have a friend and fellow gamer who is retired from MD Corrections; the pay was much better at your place, but the conditions WEREN'T. I've always said correctional officers are drastically underpaid, and we've had too many killed here in MD lately (ONE is too many, but you know what I mean!).
I did 7 1/2 years as a Federal Protective Officer, which is basically a sworn police officer doing a security guard's job, with additional duties (traffic enforcement, etc.) as assigned. So, while I DON'T have experience with exactly the same job problems you have, I DO share the LEO experience and outlook with you.
Ever notice how those who put it on the line never get paid for it? Sucks, eh? I wonder how all the grunts would feel if we all quit? Just said, "Fine; you don't want us, you don't get to keep us." It'll never happen, just as a real police strike would never happen, because those of us who select it as a career aren't there for the money. Which is why I'm gone, because although I WAS there for the job, bills come due, and the paycheck wasn't there. Oh, well. GSA didn't want cops anyway; Nixon rammed us down their throats.

See ya!

Jim

To RF, Admin and all,
I did not get a post card at home or work. If I had it would have been good as a hint to my wife ... I'll probably order my own Christmas present anyway but still...
Now I have to put my two cents worth in about the work thing...
Most of my co-workers know I play with little men (and spaceships and small tanks). Most of the ones I call friends have been over and down to the basement to see the swords, and armor and skulls and all the little weird odds and ends I have collected over the years of being a sword and sorcery nut ... and yes I take quite a bit of teasing about some of my hobbies ... Although every bit of it I deserve as I give as good as I get ... its kind of a rough crowd.
However as I have worked inside the prison system as an officer for twenty years I think I can safely say I have a handle on what is TRULY aberrant behavior. After seeing people do some of the things I have seen them do sitting in the basement on a Saturday night rolling some dice and yelling, "I'm attacking the snakeman with my magic flaming chain!", is down right normal.
Gaming is like any other hobby if the people you work for (and this is for anybody out there) think gaming is too weird then maybe they should come work with me for a bit ... we are currently hiring ... $70,000+ and all the riots you can handle!

Anyway that's my two cents worth.

Take care all,

Maulhelm

Hey, and I'm not three hundred pounds anymore. I'm currently hovering around 285, and proud of it!

I'm told I'm quite photogenic, as you'll find out next October. I'm still puzzled where Jeff got the French maid uniform in my size, but I think you'll agree it's a stunner.

Interesting...
So.. you recieve DF products there.... which they most know about, since in such a crazy secure facility I am sure they would search the boxes...
But, when you recieve an unsolicited advertisement from the company that you purchase SCI-Fi and caverns from, they freak out.

I am really surprised that a visit to the website did not clear things up......

RF*...man.... I don't know about this..someone may have been looking for an excuse to ring you up... cause unsolicited postcard mailings happen to people all of the time.

Maybe you could arrange a conversation between Jeff and you boss to sort this out and explain what happened.

Good luck!
Robert

PS To everyone... did we not get DoE postcards before for the regular set..I can't recall.....
