Thod, Welcome back, hope you had a great holiday....
If you can manage to get a '5 Sets' (for me Painted) option with a better European shipping cost and someway to enable us to also buy some of the add-ons - would be great and I would up my pledge accordingly. :)
I am currently held back at only 3 painted sets & no add ons. :(

Hello, thanks for youir answer but i don't undestand something, maybe it is because i don't understand how the us customs work.

If a solution is found all the sets will be send from china, some container to US, and some to UK.
When it enters UK you have to pay fee + VAT, first it will be for the manufacturing price not the retail price (so it will be a little cheaper).
When they will enter US they have to pay taxes too no ?

If i am not wrong it would be roughly the same?

If you find a solution i will be in fot 5 or 10 sets + some add ons.

First - yes - I'm back. I have been quiet as - well - there have been several ideas - but no solution yet.

DwarvenForge is doing a fantastic job in min-maxing the strech goals and offering customers (in the US) as much as possible. This min-maxing has to ensure they keep a fixed volume - or they really get hurt via higher shipping costs.

For Europe it is more an issue of weight. I have a simple flat rate for all of Europe for a packet - but that is max. 2kg. This option was discarded even before we started this KS. Dwarvenite is just too heavy.

This leaves courier. But first it is a jump in cost - and second they charge differently for different countries. I've currently 7 different rates throughout Europe. Not a problem for a site that allows individual shipping options - but nothing that works with Kickstarter (easily).

Offering it outside KS - well - this would sidestep the above problems but raises others - especially during a running Kickstarter. Just lets say this is not an option at the moment.

This will be the default option later in the year. I will buy in Dwarvenite Sets - but off course you want to get them now to include all the free stretch goals. I will also try to get all the add-ons. Not sure in what kind of packaging - but in one form or another as there are no KS only items (apart of the tote bag and the logo for your posting here).

So apart of 7 different zones - we could take an average - what else complicates it?

I don't know how other projects are doing it - legally. I already heard that TAX authorities are aware of KS projects and might target them. The issue is - every set here in the EU costs and extra 5% duty (possibly waived on smaller shipments - certainly not when I import a container) and 20% VAT.
You are likely to pay that on US orders as well - plus handling charges - which are £13.50 per box here in the UK. But too many customers are not aware of this as I had to explain in detail when I opened my shop why I was more expensive as the US. Well - apart of taxes I try to match them whenever I can.

So can't you save shipping directly. Off course you can - provided you take taxes into account. But I likely know after the KS what I should have charged as I know which countries and which weight. I try not to profit from the shipping and hand on the savings to you - but if I get it wrong then I pay a lot from my pocket. Nothing I truly like to do,

So back to the drawing board. The option I cringe most about is the 5 set option for $200 shipping. This is the easiest to beat - even adding in cost for duty, VAT and handling. Off course this assumes that this option stays below 30kg (well - make this 28kg if you add a sturdy box).

Would it help to add a European only option for 5 sets ('shipping' for painted would be higher because of taxes). This would be less than $200 and includes all shipping, taxes (EU at least, sorry Norway and Switzerland), duty, handling charges.

I feel confident enough that the weight of this isn't ending up at 31kg (or I'm really, really in trouble).

Add-ons would stay as they are as they are shipped independently anyhow.

A possibility here would be a second offer - the equivalent to the 3 sets plus 4 add-on packs. Again - this seems to min-max the European shipping.

Please let me know your thoughts. Chances are small and it won't happen if you don't hear officially by Tuesday or Wednesday officially. But I just wanted to let you know we are not idle in the background.

This is a moving target. I can't impose restrictions on future stretch goals for the sake of the Kickstarter. But with the heavy changes that have happened so far it is difficult to get an option nailed down before the end of the KS (when it's too late).

Take the new 6 by 4 floor plates. Volume vice they can be packed tightly - weight vice they can hurt you big time.

There will be Dwarvenite in my shop later this year for EU customers. I understand that you like to take part in the savings offered by the KS now. But that is a more difficult problem.

Hi there

Would love some official word on this.... I'd love to back the KS for more, but I simply can't afford the shipping costs. Anything progressing on this at all in terms of bulk shipping to DF Europe perhaps, and then distributing from there? Even if the answer is "no - we can't do it" would at least let me know where we stand on this one (i.e "Yes, it makes perfect sense to remortgage to get some more tiles..."):-)

Cheers

That a useful calculation. My only concern is once I multiply this out any error will become large! It would be nice for DF to get their scales out.

Ditto for shipping to Australia!

At least tell me the weight for each set and add on so I can investigate putting it on a slow boat myself!

So, the basic room set is 6 lbs. The Game Tiles pieces weigh ~25% less than the old resin pieces, so that would be 4.5 lbs. The old room set comes with 41 pieces, so let's go with ~.11 lbs. per piece.

The new set only comes with 34, but that is before stretch goals. As of this moment it looks like we get 29 extra pieces per set. So each set totals 63 pieces. That would be (very roughly) 6.91 lbs.

I know another aspect of the cost is size, but I have no way to approximate that, since they have already said the shipping containers will look nothing like the old ones.

Im hoping that since they have an agent (so to speak) in the UK they can sort something out for us at least.

I like many others simply can not raise my pledge on the number of sets in the KS, nor take part in any of the add on sets due to how hiked the shipping costs become for non US.
