i have also seen people ho painted the underside blue... lends a nice cast to the whole piece

If you want them a deep blue use Tamiya Clear Blue on them. Very simple. Then drybrush the parts you want extra detail in to finish them up. On my sets I painted it all blue and then drybrushed only the floors.

For white, there are quite a few near white colors offered by Reaper among others that can give you good results.

Huh - didn't know that about them. However, I will agree they are VERY easy to drybursh - so much so that I even tried it (and I don't paint ANYTHING) with special help and advice from Unclebilly.

The painted caverns were a special edition but I believe it is very easy to dry brush them.
