If you don't want to pop off doors this is what I did.

1) Paint the floor and the door jambs gray. Don't worry about getting some on the door but don't over do it.

2) Dry for 15 minutes to a 1/2 hour.

3) Paint some stones with Earth.

4) Dry brush with Olive

5) Dry Brush with Stone.

Now you have a bunch of door with painted stone work and unpainted door.

For the doors your base coat should be applied as follows

1) Close the door

2) Paint with a small brush the top near the top hinge.

3) Paint the third or half closest to the hinge. But stops slightly short of the bottom.

4) Push the door completely open on the upainted portion

5) Paint the top, side and bottom edge portion of the door sticking out beyond the floor. Paint the exposed back edge closest to the hinge.

6) Set it aside for a few minutes to dry

7) Push the door close. The Porzony paints I found don't smear after a few minutes of drying.

8) Finish the bottom edge of the front and back.

9) Dry again

10) Dry brush accordingly.

I removed the doors by putting them in warm (not hot) water for a few minutes. The pieces softened and the door popped right out. Did the same thing when putting them back together. Easy peezy.

I have found that it is easy to remove the tab and hence the door. This makes painting far easier IMO. Hopefully I can get some progress made after this next week of hellish assignments!

take the doors off

if the door frame top pops off when putting the door back on just glue it back in place.

Painting the Doors

Post by ced1106 » Mon Nov 04, 2013 2:37 pm

Any suggestions for painting the doors? Bday's coming up soon and I'm gonna start painting! (: Grabbed some comments for door painting, but please add yours! Should I paint the stone first then the door, or vice-versa?

@Rick you can also tape off the wall and floor parts of the door with this ... ref=sr_1_1… If you don't think your hand is steady enough. Then just paint and dry brush the doors then paint the knobs and hinges.

@Rick I kept mine pretty close to the standard paint job. Dark brown drybrush followed by a lighter brown drybrush then a steel colored paint for the hardware. It looks like it was going to be hard to get the doors apart and back together again without damaging them so I just painted them on the hinges.

@Rick (funny, doesn't sound like a mawg name...) First of all, removing the door from the frame makes painting it and the frame easier to paint but I had a H A R D time getting it back on. I painted doors vrs browns, used bronze or copper for the bindings, then a black wash. I'll prob do some with a black base and drybrush browns, touch up the bindings with black then a light drybrush of silver. I have several pics of a standard set using Pokorny Olive and a set of Ice castle look, all on the Facebook Fantasy RPG Tetrain page. Lotta people ate showing off their DFKS painting there.
