The only way to get half-roof floors (e.g. to make a barbican) would be to buy a fifth set of crenellations, right?

If you want to add large towers to the Count's Castle (whether via Watchtower pledges to get Stretch Goals, or just buying levels and roofs a la carte) you will need to purchase a Tower Transition pack for each tower.

You do not need to buy any extra Cutout Corner packs, the Count's Castle already includes those.

What about adding 1 or 2 large towers?

Ah, OK, thanks! And thanks for doing all of these comparisons. They're very valuable. I hope Stefan and co realizes the service you're providing them. :-)

Ah, that's right! Couldn't remember why I had that on the list...

If you were building this a la carte, it's the cheapest way to get the 4 curved cutout flagstone tiles you need to fill in the walkway around the towers. Much cheaper than buying 4 Tower Transition packs with a bunch of parts you don't need.

No the Count's Castle does NOT include any batter base pieces, those would be a bonus for the hypothetical a la carte build. Doesn't change the math too much, prebuilt Count's Castle is still the way to go IMO.

Just curious geekjeff, when you talk about approximating the CC in an expert pledge you mention 1x small tower batter base. Is that included in the CC?

Count's Castle FAQ - updated with new Battlement info

Count’s Castle FAQ - updated 5/5/16 with Battlement clarification
More questions? Corrections? Post below and I’ll get answers and update!
Please note: all prices mentioned here are for Unpainted sets. Painted sets usually end up about 30% higher but check in the pledge manager to be sure.

What is the Count’s Castle?
This preconfigured pledge level is a highly customized variant of the Castle expert pledge. It does NOT qualify for stretch goals, but it comes with the following upgrades:
- 3 story high, 4” diameter towers at all the corners
- interior walls in the courtyard
- full Crenellations on all the walls and the tower tops
- a pair of conical roofs on the back towers
- a nice assortment or décor and accessory pieces to partially replace the stretch goals.

How does that compare to building the same thing with an Expert Pledge?
The Count’s Castle can be pretty closely approximated by purchasing this suggested build: 1x Castle “Expert” Pledge, 1x Castle Inside Wall Pack, 1x Castle Crenellations Pack, 4x Cutout Corner Walls, 5x Small Tower Fortified, 4x Small Tower Crenellations, 1x Small Tower Roofs Pack, 1x Alternate Floors, and 1x Small Tower Batter Base (for the cutout floor pieces.)
This comes to a total of $851 – much higher than the Count’s Castle at $585, but it does include 2 sets of Stretch Goals and a few extra parts.

What about those Stretch Goals? What would it cost to add them to the Count’s Castle?
It’s not a perfect match, but you can get the rough equivalent of the Expert pledge’s 2 sets of stretch goals by adding the following to your Count’s Castle pledge: 1x Siege Defense Pack, 1x Siege Equipment, 1x Flags and Gargoyles, and 1x Chromatic Orbs.
Total of Count’s Castle plus those 4 addons is $724, vs the Expert option at $851. Count’s Castle is still quite a deal.

What extra parts does the Expert option provide? What special parts does the Count’s Castle offer?
Check the linked Google Docs spreadsheet for details. (Spreadsheet incoming)
The major differences – Expert Pledge has some leftover Corner Arrowslit Walls, which you could use to start a new building or combine with purchased Wall Spacer and Wall Platform packs to build new wall sections.
Expert pledge has some extra half tower floors, and 2” insert walls for the Cutout Corners,
The Count’s Castle has one Modular Wall Of Doom and one of the new CBS Arch Walls which this Expert pledge does not include.

What if I want to upgrade from Crenellations to Battlements?
You’ll need to purchase 1x Straight Battlements, 1x Corner Battlements, and 2x Battlement Transitions packs. Works out to $117 unpainted, in addition to the cost for your Gatehouse height upgrade of choice as detailed below.
Special Note: to use Battlements on top of any Gatehouse or upgraded Drawbridge, you need something to make the section above the Drawbridge at least 2” taller so the Battlement corbels will be clear of the crests or arches. The new Mega Battlements pack includes this, but is WAY overkill for a Count’s Castle. Other options include: part of a Square Tower or Stone Advanced Builder addon, or some other City Builder stone parts from your collection.
See Elye’s video for a clear demonstration of the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dELqv9PtST4

To surround a Count’s Castle with mountains/cliffs, what do I need?
A single Erinthor Mountains megapack is more than enough to surround a Count’s Castle or extended Count’s Castle.
If you’re not buying the megapack, at least 2x Mountain Cliffs packs is the recommended minimum.

What if I want to make the Count’s Castle bigger in the future?
You can easily double the interior courtyard area of the Count’s Castle (up to 8”x16”) by adding 1x Straight Walls Pack, 1x Ramparts Inside Walls or Modular Walls of Doom, and 1x Ramparts Crenellations for about $105.
You can double it again to Grand Citadel interior size (up to 16”x16”) by adding another set of the above for another $105.
Please note that you will need to add floors somehow – either 8x8 Flagstone Floor packs or Mountain Floor packs ($18 for 2) or use City Builder floors, City Builder streets, Dungeon Tile floors, etc from your collection.

What if I want to break out some of the included 4” diameter towers to use elsewhere?
There’s a pack for that – the Small Tower Breakout for $29 set will let you separate two of your towers and fill in the gaps left behind in the Walls and Crenellations.

Can I add Double Thick walls?
You could with the Castle Double Thick Walls pack but it is not recommended unless you’re also expanding the courtyard footprint. You’d be left with a tiny 4”x4” courtyard and a very complicated and expensive replacement of all the Crenellations.

What changes or additions did Count’s Castle get between the Kickstarter close and the Pledge Manager?
Some stretch goal parts were added – 2x Barrel of Arrows, 2x Arbalest, 2x Wooden Pole Stand
Some typos which indicated inclusion of parts other than what was actually featured in the build pictures were corrected.

I’m an international backer, does that change the shipping math for me?
YES. Going with the Count’s Castle instead of the Expert pledge suggested above will save you at least $270 in shipping costs, possibly more depending on your shipping destination. That’s even before any import taxes are factored in.
Check carefully in the Pledge Manager for yourself, but the Preconfigured pledges like Count’s Castle are a particularly great deal for international backers.
