May have to try to dig up some of those vallejo paints. ;P

Just a quick note, the Reaper Clears are good, but not, technically transparent. They do make good glazes though, so in thinking about it, they should work just fine, just may need to thin them down. Of course, it should likely go without saying that practicing first on something you can discard is a good idea.

those transparent paints are magical, i use them over opaque just to punch up colors and do shading effects - super easy

Reaper has a few "clear" paints as well.

Tamiya also does clear paints.
Thanks for the tip! I've been looking for more of these pigment-less / clear colors, especially purple. I bet they'll do well for anything "eldritch" themed.
Reaper Clears are good - 09099 is Clear Purple.
Also, Vallejo Model Color 'Transparent' line is great, and I use Vall Game Inks too.
Good stuff! I've been using Vallejo for years and had no idea they had a transparent line! Highly prefer their and Reaper's bottles to GW's for...obvious reasons

So related question as I see that last pic, and related to the obelisks, etc., How do you go about painting them in a way to continue to allow the light to come through? Just really thin layers? Almost like a glaze? Never painted anything translucent before.
I've just started experimenting with this myself. A very thin / wash layer seems to be the trick. Citadel also makes a line of "Gemstone" technical paints which are very translucent (Spiritstone Red, Waystone Green, Soulstone Blue, and Blood for the Blood God if you want a darker red). I've used "Blood for the Blood God" on the crystals for one of the smaller portal pieces and immediately fell in love with the effect. I've also used it with a white base for a pretty convincing gem effect for the eyes on the Dungeon of Doom braziers and the eyes of the golems. I'm planning to do more with it, will post pictures if I'm able.

Thanks, Rabbits. :D

I like this take on the portals (from Tobi's new Builder's Masterclass page) -

When I get another Eldritch Pool set, I might try to make better use of the translucency.
I thought Blue might seem too much like water, but it does seem rather 'magical' here....
