I should be getting a 3D printer this summer. I recently backed the Egyptian theme 3D terrain KS that I have mentioned before and am looking forward to putting the printer through its paces to see what sort of quality we can get. I'd love to do a short campaign that could reproduce some environments like the Karnak temple.

We concur with the setiments that 3D printing cannot match up to Dwarven Forge Dwarvenite.

Wont be too long until they get close though.

It wont stop rip off .stl files as most of what DF do is fairly generic, do not think they have the copyright for Dungeons, Caverns etc.

So us as customers get a choice, poor 3D produced prints - assuming you have a printer (that works ;)) or Quality 3D terrain direct from the creators with a painted option to boot. (beat that 3D printers!)

I agree. 3D is nice and getting better, but it is still low quality. Someday it might be a real competitor, but for me it is a totally different portion of the hobby.

Also, it's probably best not to hand out too much in advance. Don't know what the knock-off competition is up to, but there have already been some interesting pieces seen in beans.
I do not agree. The current state of 3D can not match Dwarven Forge in quality . Most Dwarven Forge customers do not print or cast. Many do not even paint.

I do not have a 3D printer. I regularly lurk on the Dragon lock groups. There is no way Dwarven Forge can match or even come close to the speed at which 3D prototypes can be developed. With that said I have not seen anything that is as nice as Dwarven Forge.

I do not think that the "knock-off competition" accomplishs anything but to increase demand for quality products.

I am not surprised beans are being given out less, because the Caverns KS has been moved back.

Truth be told once Nate said he would be have some new teaser pics for use at the start of the month and he didn't I wondered if the KS might be being moved back.

That was the beauty of the puzzles...

A single bean kept the clamoring hordes fed for weeks!

I'm just teasing - mostly. Nate promised beans, I suspect there will be beans. It's the relative drop-off that's got people antsy - for a while the puzzle posts were coming pretty steadily.
