Perhaps this will give everyone a better perspective:

I am thinking the meadow isn't too bad, but the one showing ground needs something done.... Perhaps just an offset as suggested by kitenerd?

I am just one voice...

I REALLY dislike the mossy side

This is my battle mat (horrible picture - great battle mat - Broken Egg)

the previous more mottled version seemed like a closer fit - i am excited to have these trays (ruins are a pain to set up on the fly) - depending on where the design lands i may purchase more

i don't have a problem with the muddy terrain side but would offer up this idea - put the mud off center (this was a hasty crop)

this would allow 4 trays to make a larger mud patch without the donut effect or use 3 on the dry side and have a smaller patch

I just wish Nate would drop a hi-def picture of the Acid tray to "examine".
I really want to take a closer look at that picture. ;) ;)

I feel like any pattern is going to be repetitive if examined at all. A donut shape would likely make that more obvious. Personally given that these will be broken up by other kids of terrain, with this new overhead view, it looks pretty good to me.

Is the reason the edges of these tend to be more uniform to account for a bleed in design?

We hear you about the "donut" concern.
Need donuts to appropriately assess this situation. Once donuts have been provided, a solution can be proposed.

They look good to me. Given that these are being designed to compliment the 3-D dwarvenite and resin terrain, which will be sitting on the edges and budding on the terrain tiles, much of the solid edge will be broken up by actual terrain. I think these will function perfectly.

Now if you placed 9 of these together, with no 3-D terrain on top of them, sure it may look repetitive.... but I don't think that will be the common use for these. These will give a nice continuity to negative space between Forest builds and Mountain builds, and Dungeon entrances, or Castle/City structures.

In short, my vote ( which isn't worth much at the end of the day) is put them on the printing press Nate! If you want to ship me some. I'd be more than happy to play test them in builds for you

Hey guys!

We hear you about the "donut" concern.

Here are flat, overhead views of the current forest tile (front and back), which are much easier to see/judge than the skewed image from the update.

Looking at these overheads, do they feel too donut-y to you?

We still have a little time to tweak. I'm on the fence.

Push me over one direction or the other!

Thanks for you feedback, as always.

I forget, did we ever get a photos of Dreadhallow tiles next to Resin Woodland floor? Pretty sure they're pretty far apart visually, but just part of my calculation regarding terrain trays as well.

I can't say much else besides I completely agree with the sentiment that the terrain trays should blend well and avoid distinctive patterns that look repetitive. Ideally you would be able to cover a whole table with the same tray style and have it look like an endless field of lava/forest/water/ice/etc.

Not a big fan of the forest clearing side - would have been better as an overlay. Three or four of these together are going to look very repetitive. The tile details should be an understatement and not have anything on them that “stands out”. Let the DV 3D pieces provide the spotlight.
