WHO NEEDS GATORFOAM???

Post by GODofwar » Tue Mar 06, 2018 3:54 pm

Folks, Styrofoam works just fine. It comes in 2" among other thicknesses.

Go find some store that gets a lot of goods packing in styro. FInd one that gets 2" packing styro.

Offer to take it off their hands. They will love you for it.

THen buy a few HotWire Foam Factory tools, and you can carve and shape to your heart's content.

A bit of water-based paint & you can fill in all that empty space with cheap foam....and you don't necessasrily have to face the edges with Erinthor - although you certainly can. A few quick easily learned techniques can make the exposed edges, once painted, look just fine.

Thanks RB. You just gave me an idea.
Buy the "expensive" Gatorfoam for elevation builds and then Greenstuff a cliff surface on a group of 10 or so of them, maybe break up a couple. It would be cheaper than dwarvenite elevations and mountain sets. Then buy a few DF mountain tops and foors and I can possibly avoid a complete Erinthor Mountain set or more. It's been tough, letting that one go back during the KS, I really wanted the set, but funds didn't and still don't allow that.
Now where was that link to the foam. I'll have to see if it's cost worthy. ;)
William if you can find a 'cheap' source for Gatorfoam you will get a 68 paws up salute - assuming you post the link of course ;)

Don't forget appropriate corner posts (and double posts) for the various wall textures...
Agreed

We realised we forgot the posts in the car on the way home from work - DOH!

Yeah, since they did that with the mountain pieces in KS4 it's been a game changer for me and elevation builds. So much easier (and cheaper).
Elevations are really easy and cheap with 2" foam cut to size, painted with black house paint. :)

We looked into getting 2" foam in KS3, KS4 and KS5 and it was prohibitively expensive - ok cheaper than dwarvenite - but where is my cliff face ?

OK we get a cliff face by putting a mountain cliff face in front of it, so I need dwarvenite and foam!
But I want different types of cliff face - what then ?!

OK OK so we could have cut polystyrene blocks or packing foam to size, but much prefer a purpose built solution that is more flexible and less reliant on my DIY (non existent) skills.

Honestly, if we could have got the foam that Nate used in his CBS and Castle builds for a reasonable price we would have done.

But much prefer DF to expand their CBS walls with Cliffs, dungeons, caverns and mines :)

DF DF DF.....

More and more DF

Elevations is DF's tricky plan to get us to buy more DF. You can only cover so much table if it is one layer.
