We assumed the tray would have an all around thin Neoprene covering, almost like a wrap.

The edges were always going to be an issue when its double sided, but its important that they are safe to handle by children, lagomorphs and husbands.

I am old enough to have played with sheet metal toys. The edge needs to be covered. Be glad the age of glass milk bottles is over.

GateGate
I foresaw the issue with the gates. Trim the tabs off and replace them with a metal pin. A paper clip is the right size. The resin pins on Griffin Tamer Gates did not last long. They were too brittle. The PVC pins are too flexible.

I posted photos on how to adjust warped plastic as reference for non modelers. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=9196

my husband's fingers after he skinned them down to the bone on some exposed metal.
Since he is OK, I will ask did he roll a one or did the exposed metal roll a natural twenty?
It was a couple of years ago. He has most of the movement back in those three fingers. I think both factors were in play when it happened. I still get chills when I think about it!

That would be maiminggate? I agree the edges need to be covered. Too bad they cannot be rounded somehow.

I'm just glad that the raw, sharp edges of the metal trays are covered. If you want some gore in your life, I can send you a picture of my husband's fingers after he skinned them down to the bone on some exposed metal. The 20' spray of bright red, arterial blood in the ER when the RN let go of the pressure for a second haunts my nightmares! Imagine that with someone's child! I can live the the extra material on the edges. Just say no to TrayGate.

A fix could be to sew a couple of tacks (in a matching green thread) at intervals along the edges...in from edge enough to fix the metal plate in place.

I didnt get any of the trays so this is pure conjecture...
