I only have one acid terrain tray and no grid overlays. But seeing those pictures of the overlays, they seem rather glossy. Would it be possible to make them with a matte finish? I think that in addition to using +'s would show off the art better. Not sure how that would affect the cost (and might make them a bit more cloudy and the colors less vivid).

Also want to Point out my opinion that the forest Terrain Trays would seriously Benefit from an organic grid - this way it would be possible to build a forest for spontanious erupting Combats in a few seconds - just lay down grid, add a few trees - and done.

Also that way forest Encounters can be build a lot cheaper - already ordered 6 of the Trays an would love to have em an organic pattern ..

Just my 2 Cent ..

The older I get the more subtle I want the maps grid-wise. Maybe a bit of 5E rubbing off too. +1 to +'s.

A batch of overlays with +'s is a good idea.

We need to do overlays for the new 6x6's, so maybe that's the direction to pursue

I got a pack, which comes with two 12x12 and two 8x4. They work well. I use them only for tray environments where I know the players (or npc's) will be traversing that area,
Good point...you don't really need them for lava because nobody will be moving alive more than 5ft in it...
Well things can fly over, and there are some things that could be immune to fire, but in that case, I have the grids to apply ;)

The thinking I've always heard is that grid overlays allow the design to work for either kind of gamer, but if you silkscreen a grid (or +'s) all over it then you've locked everybody in to one option. If there can be an organic grid like on the Forests tiles and Burrows, where it's so subtle some people have trouble seeing it even when they know it's there, I think that's something they'd explore.
I just want clear overlays with the +'s, not silkscreened on :)
Yeah, I agree with this. +'s would have been better than full lines. I bought a pack of the overlays but haven't used them yet, but every time I think about it I get sad about how much they intrude on the aesthetics of the trays. One of the reasons I really like the terrain tiles from WotC is that they use little pluses instead of full grids. I think this would have been a better way to go for the overlays.

I use them only for tray environments where I know the players (or npc's) will be traversing that area, and since there's not all that much exposed, I only got one pack. However, I plan to get another, since I do want the option to cover a longer winding river, or extended sewers (I use the acid trays as sewage pools) which are far more likely to need a grid. Its just a thin clear film that you put on the tray before the magnetized base sections are applied. Seems to do the trick but haven't experimented with possible weaker magnetic stickiness with vs without. My guess is it wouldn't be much of an issue though.
