I'm thinking enchanted forest...like that section of forest in Snow White and the Huntsman when they see the white stag!

Ok, with DF going light box for 6.66, they must have plans for something else to use it in KS7. What uses do you think they will put it to? Ice is obvious, but would they do that right after having the ice cavern in KS6? A glowing, greenish ichor swamp sounds cool to me. What about a glowing fairie realm ala Avatar?
Spot lights work better for some effects. Think of stage effects. I like the Avatar idea. Some combination of green translucent plastic and huntersomtings idea for fiber optic trees would be cool.

I noticed you live in Ga.

I agree the KISS approach should be the driving thought process. Once you start to complicate the process you open yourself up to all sorts of unexpected reliability issues. For many folks, they are building RPG settings that do not require a lot of dynamic changes in the short period the characters might be in that location. Also by keeping it simple, that makes it more useable. I know there are some folks who build awesome and highly detailed dioramas that look incredible, but I also see a scene that is way too full of stuff to easily game in without knocking all sorts of detail props over with our fat human-sized fingers.

The other key thing is to make the parts look good, even without a lightbox giving them a backlight. Perhaps not as dramatic, but still conveying the hot lava look. That might be a tough needle to thread, however, since many translucent colors are rather pale when not being lit in some fashion.
