I bought these on Amazon and used a paper cutter to cut them into squares. Each sheet was actually sized perfectly to make four 4x4 tiles and nine 2x2 tiles that match the dungeon floors. They are only 10mm thick so they are a bit thinner than dungeon floors, but pretty close.

It is a fairly easy project if you have a good way to make a clean cut in 10mm thick foam.

I also thought the foam costs were pretty similar to regular dwarvenite floors. Thanks for the calculations!!

Disappointing.
I think choosing the more durable options will be better for me. bmcdaniel Per inch calculations were very helpful. I will not be getting any extra.

and here they are with half of the clear riser
I like the idea for a few custom tiles but I think cutting the risers from foam with a wire cutter works better for me.

In the update video announcing the foamcore packs, it appeared to me that the mega-pack of foamcore risers contained the following pieces: 8 of 8x8; 12 of 4x4; 32 of 2x2 for $248. That totals to 832 square inches or slightly less than $0.30 per square inch.

The KS1 Dungeon floor pack covers 128 square inches and is listed in the shop (i.e. not kickstarter prices) at $65 apiece (in painted Dwarvenite) ($40 for unpainted Dwarvenite). Thats $422 for 832 square inches or slightly less than $0.50 per square inch.

The KS5 castle floor pack covers 128 square inches and is listed in the shop (i.e. not kickstarter prices) at $30 apiece (in painted Dwarvenite-G) ($24 for unpainted Dwarvenite-G). Thats $195 for 832 square inches or slightly more than $0.23 per square inch.

Hobby Lobby is selling black thick "foam board" 7/16 in thick (very close to 11mm stated size of DF foamcore) in 20 in by 30 inch sheets for $4.19. Thats slightly less $0.007 per square inch.

I'm sure the Dwarven forge foamcore risers will be nice, but the price per square inch seems prohibitive. You could very likely assemble a pack of painted Dwarvenite and Dwarvenite-G for around the same price. Alternatively, you could buy off-the-shelf thick foamcore at a miniscule fraction of the price.

Am I missing something?
Yes, time.
Dollar Tree has foam core for a Dollar a sheet. You still have to texture it and cut it to shape. Your time added to the cost of the material. How fast can you cut 52 tiles? So it is not a minuscule fraction of the price even at Dollar Tree.

No, I think you're spot on. Terrain trays are less than half of the cost of the foam core risers and have more versatility. They are even more than Gatorfoam, though they look similar. I'm assuming the "value-added" item is the measurements to match DF products.

There are more than enough options for me to pass on the foam core risers.
