Q: Will you have prototypes at Gen Con available to see?
A: Yes we will. We will have different builds each day, and a $5 adventure that you can join.

-----

Q: Are other transition pieces available?. Dreadhollow? Underdoom?
A: Not at the current moment. But the dreadhollow spirit tree is hollow and could make a good entrance to drop down into the underground.

-----

Q: What does "trifecta" mean in Dwarven Forge speak?
A: Trifecta in our lingo means that nesting pairs of shapes can be used in three different ways - as a freestanding wall in a negative space build, as a ledge piece is a negative space build, or nestled together to make a standard “wall with attached floor” building element.

Q: is there a list which of the pieces for hellscape are new and which ones are older sculpts recast in the new translucent material and is there a set that is only new pieces?

A: It's kind of hard to spot, but if you look at the Piece Grimoire at the top of page 13 it reads "The following pieces are lava versions of Caverns Deep pieces." Everything below that is new material casts of existing Caverns Deep sculpts.

-----

Q: Will lava terrain trays be offered as part of this KS?
A: Probably not. We are offering the phantasmal filters that can be used both with and without the light panel.

-----

Q: Will the trifecta floors be offered separately from the walls? There are some nice ledge pieces in there that would work well independently.

A: No, the trifecta pieces were designed to work together to create 3 separate looks/structural designs. It wouldn’t be a trifecta floor is separated from its wall.

-----

Q: Do the doors in the Infernal Doors Add-On work with the Cavern's Deep door frame? It looks like the same door frame as the one from CD, just painted differently, but I wasn't sure.

A: Yes they do! That’s a standard DF door size, it’s also interchangeable with Dungeon of Doom double door frame.

-----

Q: Is the Pedestal of Pain the same size and generate enough illumination with the built in LEDs to work with the Serpent Obelisk or Arcane Circle from Castle Builder?

A: (Elye) The Pedestal of Pain has a 4x4 base (like the LED floor base from KS4), but it's a much taller piece, a stone outcrop with a stairway that winds around the side. I don't see why you couldn't put the Serpent Obelisk or other similar pieces on top of it though (and make use of the lava illumination from within the Pedestal). I'll put in a request for that to appear somewhere in a demo!

A: (Tobi) Yep. The top lava pool of the Pedestal of pain has LEDs built in to illuminate Lighted Floor covers like those you mentioned (andd even more, like the Magic Pool insert from KS5, and summoning circle from KS6) similar to the LED floors from KS4 and 6

-----

Q: For the cornerfill lava drip piece, in the grimoire its shown both illuminated and not. However in practice its almost always going to be sitting on a floor, rather than directly on the light tray. If its over a lava piece of the floor, does it also get illuminated or has the light been diffused too much at that distance?

A: (Tobi) the illuminated picture is assuming its directly on the light panel/phantasmal filter, it gets some light when on a lava puddle or river of a piece (of course wont illuminate when on stone). for use directly on the light panel, you could use it as a corner post between 2 trifecta walls, or use a mix and match of the cornerfill stalagmite and the lava drip cornerfill against a wall or make a lava stalagmite/tiny volcano

-----

Q: Are these pieces magnetic?
If so, where will the magnets be on the magma river pieces which are pretty much completely transparent.

A: whenever possible the floor pieces will have magnets as in the Cavern Deep set. There are some darker edge areas on the magma rivers where magnets should fit.

Q: Since trifecta ledges are double sided, how does that affect translucency? (With painted stones on both flat sides)
A: You are correct, they are a lot less translucent than the others.

-----

Q: Is the "Pedestal of pain" is compatible with the top part of the KS6 "Stairway to violence". Thanks!!!
A: Nate showed on the walkthrough for Encounter 3 that they are compatable and play very well together.

-----

Q: Any chance the Hellgate components are interchangeable with the castle gate?

A: Of course they are! In fact the drawbridge was originally sculpted for KS4. It's interchangeable with the KS4 wooden drawbridge. The new Flame Portcullis is interchangeable with the KS4 iron portcullis. The gatehouse is sized to work nicely with the other castles pieces.

-----

Q: Two questions on the Hellgate dimensions. Is it 4” wide to match the castle builder walls? And will the rear walkway line up well with a crenelated castle wall? The pictures we have now only show the front of the Hellgate with the walls.

A: Yes and yes! I'm shooting a Hellgate hands-on demo video tomorrow which will show all sorts of options and compatibility.

Q: When will we get water versions of these magma rivers?
A: Unfortunately it will not be during this KSer, but that is a really interesting idea for down the road.

-----

Q: Wish List: Some transition wall and floor pieces that start out regular cavern gray but transition to charred black. So I could run a lava/magma river down the middle of a regular cavern (or mountain, I guess) and have it look like the lava has fried the edges. Is this a possibility?

A: Transitions are a great idea, so great that we decided to make it happen. Please see the transition packs that are now available.

-----

Q: Is the Hellsgate planned to be a single piece, or will it perhaps be a separate front and back half, like the KS4 gate

A: Check out the Hellsgate walkthrough for all your hellsgate questions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH3x9kU_yIM

-----

Q: Could you throw three or four diagonal magma rivers in a row and post picture from above?

A: Check out the livestream from 6/26 at the 1:23:19 mark.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTPUhLl7WFw
You will see a good overhead view of just this request.

-----

Q: Just wondering if we are going to get an "all lava" floor piece. I'd like to be able to build out a larger pool effect than just the river....

A: unfortunately that is not on our list of sculpts for this KSer. This is a perfect usage of the lava phantasmal filter.

A: (Elye) larger areas are probably best handled using negative space builds: you can cover much more real estate with greater versatility that way. Also, an all lava floor piece would require other additional pieces to be usable at all; a regular river tile can't transition directly into it.

-----

Q: I don't know if this has been discussed. Normally I love passages, but I am unsure how to get light to these with panels being so much wider. Can we get some examples on how to do this effectively?

A: (Elye) You'd probably want to cover the exposed parts of the panel (on either side of the passages you're lighting) with black cloth, construction paper, or the like. Would be a good thing to demo, I'll mention it to the team.

-----

Q: how large is the "Water Caverns transition river - lava" piece (BK610)? it's hard to discern from the picture...

A: 2" x 6" Two inches by Six Inches.

A: (backer) Keep in mind that because of the lovely scale differences between inside and outside Dwarven Forge pieces... it may be 50mm x 100mm instead of inches.

-----

Q: Does anyone know if the Dead End Passage piece will appear in any add-on pack? According to my spreadsheet, it's the only Caverns Deep piece that's not accounted for in any of the lava add-on packs.

A: Not sure if this piece will show up or not, it is not

-----

Q: Has DF put any thought into making a dead-end magma river sculpt? There really is no elegant way to end a magma flow in the middle of a setup. You can enter(waterfall or wall end) or exit(wall end) but no nice way to end a flow. Perhaps you could transition to a small negative space pool, but thats a little clunky. All the T intersections are crying out for a dead end.

A: (Elye) We think it will generally look best to transition into a negative space area for a river's end; you can do a relatively small pool that way (if you don't want a larger lake/pool), and it looks like the lava is draining down into a lower area or filling a depression. Alternately, for an active flow, you can use the magma river transition piece for the end of the river where it's spilling out across the ground.

Given the sense of surface movement on the river pieces, having the river stop abruptly in a small area on a single tile would seem a little odd. That said, I'll pall along your request; more options are always good!

-----

Q: Do the rising walls go from 2" up to 4" height, or is it different? And are there any wall pieces that start at 2" height and taper down?

A: Rising Walls don’t go quite to 4” but they do work for smoothing the transition to a second level. Look at the Bestial Cliffs from KS6 for a good example.

-----

Q: Will pedestal of pain be available as an add-on?
A: Yes, coming soon.

-----

Q: Will volcano be available as an add-on?
A: Yes, coming soon

-----

Q: Is the soulgate able to sit over top the KS4 illuminated floors (4x4 with open circle in center)
A: yes it does fit over the illuminated floor.

-----

Q: How big is the tri spire?
A: Footprint is about 2x2 and it is about 4in high

-----

Q: How big are the Ruptured talons?
A: about 3in high and footprint is about a 2x1

-----

Q: Any chance to see a short 2x4 magma river piece?
A: No, no new magma river pieces will be showing up.

-----

Q: Will there be miniatures
A: Yes after 1 Million

-----

Q: what does trifecta mean?
A: Check out the Cavern’s Deep Trifecta Walkthrough Video to get an in-depth explanation of our trifecta system.

Q: How many pieces does the Hellgate come in? One like the videos seems to suggest, or multiple like the castle drawbridge gate?

A: (Elye) I believe the main gate itself will be one piece (front and back will not separate) though there are lots of other bits that are removable as seen in the demo video. There's no sculpted texture on the inside of the gate.

-----

Q: why is there no dead end magma flow piece?

A: A Magma River end cap would be great, but the current word is it’ll have to wait for an expansion pack. If the rivers do well (and by all indications, they seem pretty popular) then it’s a possibility for a future set.
It seems to me like a good candidate for the “one that got away” addon in a future campaign - like how City’s Alley Intersections snuck into Castles, and the DoD Ruins snuck into Caverns Deep, and how Large Banks snuck into this campaign.

-----

Q: aren't the 2x2s just KS6 repaints? I mean, it will be a little while to wait to buy KS6 unpainted floor sets, but probably sooner than KS6.66 will deliver.

A: The Flat Floors and Stagnant Puddle Floors are recasts and repainted, yes.
Note that they’re in the translucent yellow material and KS6 floors are of course not, so KS6 versions won’t transmit light through the cracks.

------

Q: with the change to the Convex corner, isn’t it just functionally The Trifecta corner without the wall?

A: The difference is that the banks taper down, whereas the trifecta is like a ledge (more or less at standard floor height)

-----

Q: Is it possible to get a lava fall that comes down and straight into the negative space? Perhaps a (taller?) version of the KS2 movable waterfall?

A: That is an interesting idea that we did explore, however having only a vertical magma falls piece with LEDs was not possible in our design testing, and was encredible difficult to create, so we set this idea aside.

-----

Q: Instead of breaking up the 4x4 convex curve piece by taking the 2x2 piece out. Why can't you offer 2 variations of the piece. The Original and the New and Improved and have 2 different Add-On packs allowing people to decide which Add-On they want. One's with Original or One's with New & Improved.

A: (Elye) In a perfect world we would be able to offer both; but the problem is that creating both styles would mean creating two large, expensive molds instead of one, and selling half as many castings from each. We have to be very careful to stay within our mold "budget" to keep the project viable, and if we're going to add another mold we have to weigh its value against that of something else we might have to cut. E.g: Lots of people have been asking after that awesome volcano that's been teased in numerous photos. Adding another bank mold might push that further off, or the next cool thing that will be revealed after that...

-----

Q: In the latest update (#11) it looks like the T-intersection of the magma river doesn't line up right with the surrounding magma pieces... is this just me?

A: (Elye) I checked on this with Nate (since you're right, it does look off). He says it's just a case of the painting on those two pieces being a bit off. (Pretty sure that was the case since I sculpted those.) If something did turn out to be off in the prototypes though, we'll tweak it before it goes to final production.

-----

Q: Will the volcano contain LEDs or will it strictly illuminate from the Light Trays?

A: Yes, the Volcano is an integrated LED piece.

-----

Q: How soon until we get a picture of the pedestal of pain in the standard caverns paint? Thanks.

A: the image on the addon is the standard color paint - it’s subtle, but those are Caverns Grey rocks with glowing lava erupting out. It threw me for a loop too at first.

-----

Q: Does anyone know if the transition pieces still work with the light panels? For instance the spouted floor transition piece is about half lava still, is that half still translucent and will let light through?

A: Yes the transition pieces will still ‘glow’ in the cracks on the light panel. The transition pieces are cast in the translucent yellow dwarvenite, so they will react the same as the magma pieces.
