Nov-Dec 2009 Photo Contest -- The Realm of the Ancients!

Post by gdmcbride » Thu Dec 31, 2009 6:15 pm

Darkest Hour

Is it my madness that the stones themselves seem to shift and change? The ancient reliquary seems to be changing into some unfathomable logrus. Everywhere the corruption spreads and I can do nothing to stop it. Flames leap from open pits roiling with damned souls. What was once a memorial to the splendor of the ancients has become a place of darkness with unthinkable rituals howled at blasphemous conjunctions of nameless stars. I know what they seek. They seek a way into the sealed chamber of records wherein is kept the ... no, even now I dare not speak its name!

The battle is lost and now our defeat is simply a matter of time. The ancient guardians are helpless -- encysted and bound -- turned to little more than piles of standing rubble. Who now has wisdom enough to free the six sentinels? They still stand watch at the overgrown entrance even though they are powerless to stop the daily atrocities that afflict our sanctuary. I send this message unsure who will receive it. Let he who has courage rush to our aid, for this is our darkest hour.

Eight sets used:
3xRotA
3xRotA 2
Den of Evil Wicked Additions
Den of Evil Room Set

Well, I'm not a very good storyteller, but assuming you can get past the rubble blocking the entranceway into this ruin, you will find two easily accessible (and thoroughly picked over) burial chambers. One has a curious hole into a very large chamber beyond, the other contains a medallion inset into the wall which any competent rogue would be able to open. Off to the right, we find rubble propping up a a secret entrance into the recesses of the ruin. Beyond, and around a corner, a more ornate burial chamber is found where the crypt cover is being used to prop up yet another secret entrance allowing deeper delving into the ruin. After passing a few antechambers, and picking a few locks, the passageway opens into a large room with rotating walls on either side. The double walls swing open to reveal a large, two story, chamber. the other wall swings open to reveal a sinister chamber obviously used for death rituals. Anybody home?

Nov-Dec 2009 Photo Contest -- The Realm of the Ancients!

Post by Ghenghis Ska » Wed Dec 30, 2009 9:21 pm

I like functional set ups and ever since RotA came out there is something I wanted to use it as the basis for. The Ruins of the Jedi Enclave on Datooine. So when this contest was mentioned that was the idea I had floating around in my head for the basis of my build. It however went beyond my first thoughts, as I like functional builds, I had to figure out what was there and why, normally I do a little write sketching with notes of the set up as I build to get an idea of who and what is in each location. ,However this was more than a little write up this time… In this thread Looking to start a SW game. Thod mentions a one off game, I was already working on this contest when that was mentioned. Well my creative juices got flowing… so there is more than a write up that was created for this set up, there is a whole Adventure that I wrote!
This set up was the basis for an adventure, so this description is a shorter spoiler free version of that, in case we ever do play that adventure.
The setup combines the Sci-Fi accessory set Gamma, and some elements from many of the other DF accessory sets, as well as 3 RotA, 2 RotA II, and a Caverns and Cavernous passages, but as it is a ruin I didn’t put a lot of stuff in it or use any figures.

Ruins of the Jedi
Location: Jedi Enclave Dantooine

A slightly sloping passage brings one into the lower level of the Jedi Enclave. A series of quarters for the students or Jedi Knights is the first series of rooms encountered. What may remain in those empty rooms?

From each of the dormitory wings, a passage leads off to what were originally lecture halls, one still is largely intact, with it’s setting on risers, the other has been ransacked by countless beings over the past few thousand years, the stones for the risers pulled out and the chairs and benches long since burned for fuel. This empty room now serves as the base of operations for some group. Who lives in this room now, and more importantly why is the other room untouched?

From the lecture halls there is a study/library node. Here in days gone by the Jedi could access the computer core located on this level, or sit and have discussions, now only a few terminals are around and a chair or two.

From the library rooms you proceed into the main hall of this level, this level is typically where the Jedi engaged in combat training, now it appears to store some gear and equipment from it’s new occupants. This room also has access to computer core through a concealed entrance in a wall, it is also the access way for the rear of the level and the stairs to the upper level.

The rear section contains 4-meditation/meeting chambers, with tables in them. These chambers served as meeting places as they are set up now, however remove the table and lower drop down wall and they make private meditation chambers. There is also a pair of stairs leading up to the mostly collapsed upper level, the stairs here lead to the Council chamber, which is one of the most intact areas of the whole enclave.

Bellow the council chamber is the long dead power core of the enclave.

In the corridor by the largely intact lecture hall, something has broken or gnawed through the wall, and exposed a section of caves behind and under the enclave. In the past someone or something stored some items in the caves. Is there something living in there now?

Take a look at the other contests and the answer should be pretty clear.

You post your 5 pictures in this thread, that is your entry.
This is one of the only two forums on the board that when you use the Post reply and not the Quick post method to post has the Image Upload ability. That is how most people enter the contest (some put links to the pictures in with the IMG tag, but most do it through the Post Reply and Upload).

Hi

I'm new to the contest things, so forgive me if this has already been posted or if the answer is obvious and I just missed it.

I'm wondering where to submit the pictures of my set-up for this contest? Do I post them on the forum or email them to Jeff and/or Stefan directly?

Thanks,

-Bob

I don't think a contest is a kind of promotion Crioux, especially when I never saw the winner photos into other websites excepted into this forum.

The reward is interesting but most of the best pieces we should use -as I've said- are not to direct sale so it eradicates most of the fans to the contest.

If the ROTA entrance is available in the 1st december the time you order it and receive it quickly will let you few days to do a set up. Of course if other pieces (the best one in fact when you look deeply the rota sets...) were available to a classic order it will be paradise but it isn't a DF project.

I also understand that is is done for promotion. Promoting older sets is not the goal.

:(

Well, its not like DF hasn't sponsored numerous prior events utilizing just about every other kind of set they make!!!
