One thing you have to make sure of is that the image your sharing is Public, and not just visible to your friends. People fail this check on Facebook itself all the time when sharing their own stuff to various groups, but forgetting to make the image or album they're sharing public.
that was the part I was testing... I hate the FB interface because it's not user friendly, but from what I can tell, the image in the album was set to Friends. But everyone can see it, so far... even those who aren't friends with me.

I figured this would be the case since the image link is directly to the CDN where the image is stored and not being accessed through FB itself which would enforce the restrictions.

That being said, it's probably a good habit to make it public. I'm mostly interested so that I can say this is another way to add images and not have to constantly remind people they need to set them public on FB.

Best solution to have the embed plugin installed, making it a breeze to share content from FB and such - https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... ediaembed/
Cool. Thanks! :-)

I'll pass this along to Johanna.

Facebook Image Test

Post by jchunick » Fri May 05, 2017 10:33 am

Hi Everyone.

People have a lot of trouble posting images here because the pictures they take with their phones are very large and thus the file sizes are too large for the forum limit of 700kb; although it's necessary, it makes uploading photos to the forums difficult because you have to then go through the extra process of resizing the images, somehow.

I'm trying a little experiment out to see if it's possible to post a direct link of an image from Facebook. Here is an example of an image link from my Facebook page:

Code: Select all

https://scontent.fyyz1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/16722370_10154506919066443_984521089398029234_o.jpg?oh=7babb973c417c9c41a7e19480bfca1ce&oe=59858ECA
I got this by right-clicking on the image (after clicking on it to display it full-sized), and selecting "Copy Image Address" - the exact wording might vary by browser; I'm using Chrome. Then I wrapped the link in the BBCode img tags, which is the same as clicking the Insert Image button in the editor and pasting the image link.

So, it would now look like this in your forum post:

Code: Select all

[img]https://scontent.fyyz1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/16722370_10154506919066443_984521089398029234_o.jpg?oh=7babb973c417c9c41a7e19480bfca1ce&oe=59858ECA[/img]
Anyways, if you see the image of a set of Critical Role dice below - or you don't, fill out the survey. It will help to determine if this method will allow anyone and everyone to see FB images posted here using this method.
