Here are some things I've found:

Kits like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HeartSong-Young ... 41cafc0210

An awesome Etsy store:
https://www.etsy.com/shop/TreasureChest ... le_reviews

An antique looking one on Amazon: (Leaning towards this one)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0722NK6BS/re ... 80874&th=1

A solid one on ebay: (I really like this one)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pirate-Treasure ... 1699194693

A cool Celtic Knot box: (Maybe my 2nd pick due to price)
http://www.sears.com/azuregreen-fbmw11- ... PwodxlABHw

A black treasure chest with a Pentagram:
https://www.google.com/shopping/product ... 8wIIwAIwAw

(There are a lot of Wiccan "witch" chests I've found online that appear to work. This site has a few but are more expensive than if you look for the box you want on Google: https://fullmoonsupplies.com/collection ... rds/Chests)
100 Resin and 237 Dwarvenite Sets/Packs Owned

There are these on eBay, but they look pretty cheap:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Decortive-Gi ... SwzaJX4p96

This is kind of funny:
http://www.orientaltrading.com/toys-gam ... +1305.fltr

Here's an eBay search listing:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... t&_sacat=0

Here's one that, at the largest size, is 11"x8"x8", outside dimension. That's not too bad, looks plain, but decent and is an all right price:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Treasure-Chest- ... 2368295010

This is the largest I've found, so far, at a half-way reasonable prices (it's 12"x9"x9"):

Chuck, I mean Josh, I mean oh Gosh. You don't want to be Chuck? So sorry

My apologies, I could change the post, but that would make me look even sillier.
LOL! I see what you did there ;-)

A bit of history behind my handle: I'm an identical twin. My brother's name is Jeremy, so a lot of people in school called us, collectively, "Chunick", since they then didn't have to know if it was me or my brother. I use jchunick because I think it's kind of funny since it pisses my brother off as I took the gmail account using our initial and last name and use jchunick everywhere else online so he's forced to use something else. :-) ...

I just realized, I guess he is right and that does make me the evil twin. Mwahahahaha!

There's this Pirates of the Caribbean Chest that I'd like to get my hands on:

There's a movie prop version and the much cheaper 4 movie collection blu-ray set that comes in a chest that looks like it may be a reasonable size.

Movie Prop (it looks like it's out of stock):

Chuck,

Yeah, KSers are a pretty unreliable present delivery system. I had fingers crossed and realized they may not make Christmas. Just didn't realize that it would not make Christmas again and again. :D

I had also bought a number of fantasy coins and planned to include some in the chests. For the present, I keep them in a similar array of Crown Royal bags. Somehow or another, I have about 20 or 30 of those bags - not sure where they came from. ;)

KS are fun, but definitely a gamble. Even for reliable companies that have had a lot of successful ones under their belt. It seems they most often go astray when the KS is something new, different & ambitious than the path previously trod.

So I was a backer of the Fantasy Coin Treasure Chest Kickstarter; I'm still waiting on my chests...
Alas, I know this kickstarter well. I ordered three. Two were gifts for my adult gaming children Christmas presents in 2015. Heavy sigh.

I would also like to find a well-made relatively inexpensive chest for similar purposes.
I'm sorry to hear that one hasn't fulfilled yet. I went in on that one and then had to back out due to other financial obligations at the time (can't remember if it was car repairs or some other unexpected expense), but I was very disappointed that I couldn't get in on one since I'd been building my gaming coin collection and need something to house it all.

One suggestion that you've probably already realized, but that I've told a lot of people - don't go in on a Kickstarter as a gift for someone's birthday or other hard-set day. It's a pretty big crap shoot with Kickstarter.

I'm also still looking for a chest for my game coin hoard. I currently use one of my kids' sand buckets:

I know that Michael's has some. They are in the unfinished wood craft section. All you will have to do is stain it to your color of choice. You can probably use some brads to reinforce the floor, maybe add in a small piece of wood or plastic as a new floor to support the coins. If you use plastic, hot glue some cloth over it.
