Re: Storing your Dwarven Forge
I have got spoilt. I had a huge DwF Wall - the South wall of my Kriegzimmer gaming room. 8' of Swedish modular shelves holding plastic sliding drawers. But that meant stacking DwF, which sometimes made fast bulding difficult.
OTOH, the Wall was right next to my 5x10 flying table, so I didn't have futz around with moving pieces (or drawers).
Then I sold a bunch of wargames...and the plasticized maps for them vanished. I had space in my map case. Which is EXACTLY tall enough to old DwF pieces with enough to spare for safety.
Once I had displaced my CBS to the map case, I was sold. One layer. Easy to find everything. And one map case drawer ate ALL of my CBS...and I bought quite a bit.
So now I have resin Caverns..KS I...resin Dungeon...CBS Castle (I have enough to fill the drawer - 140 of the short passage wall pieces alone - they are also my backup dungeon tunnel pieces...CBS...
Castles and the KS II are in my 6-drawer wooden rolling rack (my Dad's old hand-made tool chest) so I can roll them over to the table. The map case is pretty close to Flying Table #1 and immedeaely available to Flying Table #2, so building is still fast and easy. And EVERYTHING except DwF accessories are now one-layer thick available.
My South wall now only has one of four Swedish shelf bays devoted to DwF (things like Chamber of Sorrows, or all my stairs in one drawer). I have specialty items like towers in blue tubs in the bottom layer - those I can pull out. MBS is there. It all works.
And ther est of the South wall is now all the other base building supplies: My paper Terraclips, of which I have a pile; my 15mm buildings, in rolling racks that come out fo the South wall when needed; my 100-150 10mm solid buildings; and my 15, 10 and 3mm terrain in separate rolling racks. All right there, thanks to moving the DwF to the darn map cases.
This has reduced my build time by 50% and the stowage time by 75%. HUGE when I have four campaigns going, total of eight days a month. And often have to improve on the fly when the damn players refuse to stay on my rails...which is most times (no, actually I hate campaigns on rails).
So after eighteen years here I actually have th KZ in final order. Now I just have to sell more wargames and free the North Wall mostly up for large terrain (the GeoHex is in the unused corner of the Military Library).
But one-layer DwF storage is much, much better- if you have the luxury. So darn fast I can't get used to it.
Oh - one more advantage. All my trees are now in just two spots.

Re: Storing your Dwarven Forge
Google looked up 'Kriegzimmer gaming room' thinking it was some firm that designed and built custom gaming rooms and found pictures of Nerf guns on racks and this on Kickstarter:

#DW - yes, but I HAVE the map cases, and i don't need at least 1/3 of them, so for me its efficient. Besides, my Kriegzimmer (war room) has no floor space left to add more cabinets...

Re: Storing your Dwarven Forge
Thought you guys might appreciate the details of my storage setup. I use a
8-drawer Martha Stewart flats-file cabinet. Considering the price, its worked pretty well so far and I've been happy with it. It can hold a vast an unreasonable amount of Dwarven Forge.
For the small fiddly-bits I use Iris boxes with organizer trays and the other are cloth organizer that I can't recall where I got them.
Anyway, hopefully this is helpful for people still looking for storage solutions.

Re: Storing your Dwarven Forge
I like it. Currently I keep my city walls grouped in clear plastic bins. I alternate the groups, one group placed top up, the next bottom up, etc. to keep similar pieces sorted together. That way I can just pull one piece to see what is in each group. Your way seems better, assuming I recall what each color designates.William wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2016 8:34 am Here is an idea I have not seen in the Forum.
I plan to store my walls upsidedown categorized by Tudor and Stone. But these will be the Windows stored downside-upand I will mark the Magnetic Walls with White or Lava Orange accross whole bottom. Anyway you can see the concept in this picture.

Re: Storing your Dwarven Forge
I bought a pair of those. It was an excellent solution- except that they will be pretty much full once my KS5 arrives.Arravis wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 7:30 pm Thought you guys might appreciate the details of my storage setup. I use a

Re: Storing your Dwarven Forge
I know the cardboard boxes are not optimal, but I'm just showing my sorting system.
Painted in the hidden channel on bottom side of walls are windows in blue and arrow slits with two orange spots. I'm planning on painting LED with yellow and Magnetic with silver. Standard walls are top up. Sorry they are not all painted, it might show a bit different when they are.
Anyway, see here -

Re: Storing your Dwarven Forge
That's KS1-KS5, well, only the tiny bit of KS5 that's come in. KS1 I painted myself, you can tell by the fact that its much lighter than the few KS5 pieces in there. It was by design, I wanted something that could double as castle pieces, before the Castle KS was even a twinkle!Rabbit Burner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 3:05 amVery Nicely organised Arravis - do you know what sets you have stored in those pictures ?
On the lower drawers there's also the Path of Osiris kickstarter as well. Also self-painted, but that one was much, much easier!
There are also some miscellaneous stuff in there that I've collected over the years, mostly self-painted... if you have a specific inquiry on one, let me know.
Re: Storing your Dwarven Forge
Yeah, I think I have a second one in the horizon. Have you considered re-enforcing the drawers? I've had minor issues here and there and I'm concerned for the future as they get more stuffed!
Thats an excellent idea I might have to steal!
