Quality check on “new” resin cavern lake sets?

Post by pacarat » Sat Feb 08, 2020 12:51 am

All:

Interested in hearing if anyone who’s bought any of the new brown box resin cavern lake sets has found any quality issues in their sets.

I bought two lake sets over the holidays and recently unboxed them to compare to my old resin lake sets.

Sad to say I have some serious QC issues in at least 8 of the tiles. Issues include dimensions (as much as a 1/4”) and squareness way off, sanding edges at uneven non-vertical angles, and finish of top surfaces marred or pocked.

Thankfully Chuck is working with me with the usual DF excellent customer service to get this resolved. 8-)

Thought I’d mention this in case folks had just stored their new stuff away. I initially opened one box and pulled out a couple pieces to look over. It wasn’t until I started putting together multi-piece layouts early last week that I noticed all the defects.

Couldn’t figure out why things weren’t lining up...now I know why.

I have wrote about my quality issues already in a different thread.

I contacted the DF support twice without answer/reaction. My dwarvenite issues I had were always fixed and I got replacements but I did not get any answers or replacements concerning my issues with the resin lake/expansion sets.
I guess it is partly because of the huge amount of KS 6 questions at that time and maybe partly because it is a different company which produces the tiles and they have not a standard procedure who and what to handle concerning quality issues and replacements.

To be honest I gave up
If cross fingers that you have more luck.
more than 2,800 self painted dwarvenite pieces :)

Even with the old cavern water sets, the squaring off and sanding was an issue.

Unfortunately with the resin you can't expect the preciseness of the metal molds and dwarvenite.

This is true and I see some minor inconsistencies in my old resin. These new ones are however, are beyond the pale...

Have replacement sets coming - hopefully they will be better executed.
