Second step towards modular castle: Gatehouse

BTW for those who spotted the mat in the pictures, the DM that is currently running the game prefer the mat, but don't worry, when I am the DM, I use DF :)

This is a good example that I could have used my modules if they would have been ready. It was bandit camp in a ruined fortress, with partially destroyed walls and towers.

No problem. I didn't know you were working on something similar, until you drop a hint about "when we do our wall"...

I will sent you my ideas for castle. It wont't bea ready until a week or two. Maybe you will use them maybe you won't. This is afterall why I'm making these, to sent you my ideas in case you want to use them. Making them public allows others to build them if they want to have them right now, but unless they are as skilled as you and use extra strenght resin , it will never be as good as DF. I'm using hi-strenght Drystone plaster, but breaks still (rarely) occurs.

If you ever do a castle set, I'll buy (who needs two kidneys anyway :) ) because judging from what you made until now, it will be better than mine.

Outdoors are not as easy to do as indoors, but roleplay is not always underground, I think it would fill a gap.

When I have more time, I'll perfect the painting. For now they will stay like this until I'm finished with all my other projects.

@Stefan
These aren't any breakthrought ideas, I don't think anyone would steal them. I make them for me, and at the same time show you what it would look like if you ever plan on making something like this. And if someone want to invest TIME and money in Hirst Art to make them themselves, why not! It took me a week, almost full time (molding the bricks, assembling and painting) to make those. But most people prefer paying for DF cause it's ready-to-play.

Anyway if you ever make it, I'm sure it will be a lot better than what I'm doing.

As for the main castle, I will send them to you first, and then post it here if you don't plan on using the ideas.

Crioux,
I would very much appreciate it if you sent me your ideas "outside" of the public forum. They are quite good ideas actually, you might think they are not "breakthrough" but I feel you are undervaluing their merit...your posting is sensitive right now only because we are actually working on very "similar" projects....I want to complete these projects so we can put them into production...however, our time line is much slower than yours....I only wish we could create something start to finish in 2 weeks!

My hat is off to you.

Almost a week of full time work? WOW!

I could buy quite a few DF sets for a weeks pay! (though I'm sure you get a LOT more out of simply the creative process)

looks amazing! and i am very impressed of all the clever consturction work you put in! are you finished painting the pieces? i think the top sides should look a little bit more exposed to weather and a little moss on the walls would also ad more realism. but agian it looks very cool allready!!!!!
carry on the good work! and despite stefans post i am looking foreward to your next creations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice work. We are working along the same lines it seems...I wish you wouldn't post these pictures here though...some other company might steal your ideas, create them and then it will no longer be viable for us to create it....so, although your intentions are pure, you are "perhaps" destroying the possibility of a DwarvenForge production...

I can't take credit for ideas that aren't mine. The ideas of ruined/normal building came from Bruce Hirst:
http://castlemolds.com/tips23/tips23.html

And wait till you see the Modular Castle, I think you will be surprised, since it will be easy to use them with standard DF for interior dungeon too. Compatibility is the main goal.

I had an idea about the stacking that would not require any support at all and yet be very stable at any height. This one is probably the one that Stefan will be mostly interested in.

Maybe I'll skip the tower, which is fairy simple and go directly to the castle. Anyway, pieces from the tower and castle will be interchangable.

I agree, the pieces are very well done, and making them even more modular by making them so that adding a piece turns a ruined section into a finished section is brilliant.

But I also agree that this isn't something that interests me as a potential DF product.
Favorite Pieces: Chasms, 45 Degree Passages, River & Lava Banks, Ledges, Large Curved Walls, Elevation Arch

Again - Crioux, you make really incredible pieces!!!

But is this REALLY the direction we want to see DF move into and dedicate their resources to?
