Biowizard's Black Castle painting theme

Post by biowizard » Sun Jan 13, 2019 3:55 pm

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe I'm the first one posting a very dark painting theme for an "evil/dark" castle and that is quite surprising to me as it's one of first thing I thought of doing when KS4 came out.

Step 1
Apply with an airbrush 1 coat of a custom mix. 8 parts of Vallejos' Black surface primer mixed with 1 part of Vallejos' Grey Surface primer. Do a 2nd coat on pieces for which the paint had "pearled". It seems to happen somehow on about 30% of pieces for some reason and pre-washing pieces with soap does not seem to change this property.

Step 2
Paint random rocks with a mix of 8 parts Pokorny Base Wood, 1 part Pokorny Earth stone and 1 part Pokorny black.

Step 3
Dry brush with a mix of 3 part Pokorny Base Grey and 1 part Pokorny black.

This took me about 1 year to do as I had about 3-4K$ worth of unpainted KS4 and very little hobby time.

Now pictures!

That's most of my pieces primed with a very dark (almost black) grey stacked in my workshop:
