I really like iPaint's color choices on the floors and the dripping mounds on the walls -

I'm really not a fan of purple as a base color (but accents are fine), and it's my only problem with the 'official' underdoom theme. I like ipaint's shift to dark blue, I think it's really effective. It nicely blends a sense of subterranean menace and supernatural wonder.
I also love the ghost blue/teal on the wall overhangs. I've painted them earthy cinnamon, swamp green, and bloody red, but ghost blue never even occurred to me.
This really is a great alternative to Erin's Underdoom. Excellent work, iPaint.

Thanks a bunch for the kind words, everybody! Yeah iPaint’s work is so so good. Def an inspiration for me going hog wild on the color. And yeah John D I cant wait to see what folks come up with for the new cavern sets. Definitely going to be some bonkers paint schemes!

I like both of these schemes.
Good work iPaint and Ratfolk Lich (really clean paint jobs). I'm looking forward to seeing the fully painted sets.
Next year's explosion of custom themed Caverns should be mind boggling.

Excellent!! Lloth would be proud. I also like how the accent colors pop, it makes the whole effect.
A pretty decent Docent of Valoria

Hey ya'll!

I just finished painting my first ever Dwarven Forge terrain so I wanted to share it on here. I'm currently running "Out of the Abyss", so the terrain is underdark themed. I noticed that a lot of folks were using mostly earth tones in their cavern pieces (which look incredible), but I wanted to get a little weird with the color. I'd like to think that the under dark is actually kinda vibrant if only you could see it!

I'll get the paints together and write up a process for this soon.

~iPaint
iPaint, we demand an update! If your process has a lot of different layers and steps, could you also post a "simplified" version that aims for the same basic look with a simpler palette and quicker process?

Please do post something, even just a short text description, before the KS is over as I am seriously waffling between getting Underdoom unpainted and doing your method or getting it pre-painted. The sooner I can mull over your technique and estimate how time consuming or quick it is, the better I can decide my pledge! Thanks again!

This is so cool! This is how I'm going to paint ALL my caverns.
Zie ginds komt de stoomboot
Uit Spanje weer aan.
Hij brengt ons Sint Nikolaas,
Ik zie hem al staan.
Hoe huppelt zijn paardje
Het dek op en neer!
Hoe waaiend de wimpels
Al heen en al weer!
