Just to harp in on driftstones :)

Its on our list of non forest add-ons we want.

The theory is everywhere has magic so why not magical floating stones
Why not have them in almost any setting - underwater does not work so well, but still an option.

they don't have to move or do anything other than float and look cool.

When players see them they go 'wow cool' followed by '$h1t! what will they do?'
They don't have to 'do' anything, just pimp out the scene :)

The same applies to shrooms and faerie rings they don't have to 'do' anything just look cool and up the party paranoia.

Embed them in a sculpy base, remove the DF, add some rock/ground texture, bake and you have freestanding formations. Do the same with them inverted and you’ve doubled your options.

I am a KS2 Backer on a Budget

For me, the following is a Core KS6 Sampler pledge for $197 to get all of the basic new cavern pieces:
$74 - Cavern Starter
$54 - Crooked Corners
$18 - Double Door Pack
$51 - Cavern Floor Pack

That gets you a few of all the new walls, corners and floors, plus the bigger 4x4 wall pieces, the 6x6 floor, and 1 door/opening. I think those 4 packs are the perfect, affordable starting point for KS2 backers (or possibly new backers).

From there, you can add on some the passage packs or some of the elevation/grand piece packs or even some of the forests. It doesn't take too many add-ons to jump from $197 to $500 or whatever your pledge limit is.

It's definitely a balancing act. Going unpainted certainly allows for getting more tiles, but having painted 3 sets from KS1 (and now working on 3 encounters from KS5), and having received painted tiles for KS's 2, 3, and 4, it's a premium I'm generally willing to pay. The paintjob is fine, probably about on par with what I'd do, but even just doing a 4 or 5 step method as a novice working on a hundred tiles or so, the hours add up. Of course, if that's a hobby element that people are passionate about, it's one I'd never say they shouldn't engage in. And yes, the tiles I've painted are 'mine', which I take pride in.

But, with that said, and already having some KS2 caverns painted in hand, I'll likely keep my meager contribution to a painted encounter or starter plus a few add ons. If nothing else, not having to work to match the KS2 scheme (and buy the paints to make it happen) saves those dollars and hours I'd be otherwise occupied with.

No argument about them looking good even unpainted. I hope to wrap up my KS5 painting this week, to at least get ahead of things before the second shipment arrives with the (unpainted) Fanatic's Trove.

Also remember, they are quite beautiful even unpainted. In normal light, the detail still shines through when unpainted. Don't go in thinking they are unusable until they are fully painted, they are quite usable the day you open them in 2019. ;)
KS1 and KS2 and a LOT of KS5 all unpainted and my daughter LOVES them. you are correct even unpainted they are awesome. I'm being spoiled wanting painted because i can never see me paining the forest stuff ever :D

I got 3 sets from KS2

i'm on a $500 budget I'm looking mainly at the dressing and add-on packs no encounters but the starter cave.

i'm getting them painted because i suck at painting :D
1x summoning chamber
1x mushroom grotto
1x shrine
1x hags den
1x camp pack
1x dwarven forge
1x mimic pack (when it's added)
1x ice passage transition
1x ice starter cavern (i want painted ice i didn't get KS2 painted)

if i go unpainted (they'll never get painted and the only way i'll get the forest stuff)
1x summoning chamber
1x mushroom grotto
1x shrine
1x hags den
1x forest
1x camp pack
1x dwarven forge
1x ice passage transition
1x mimic pack (when it's added)
1x heavy forest
1x large tree
1x small tree

It kind of sucks the difference
I know, I wish I had the time, space, and ability to paint to stretch these DF dollars, but I lack all three with kids here in HK. Just think of the time you will save though, and time is money! :)

Very cool stuff you are getting within your budget! Some great dressing, new pieces to mix in with the starter, and ... ice! I am so glad they did an ice cavern starter!

It is great this campaign is so customizable. My initial 750$ pledge was pretty solid to complement my KS2 stuff, and I would have been happy with it.

1x Cavern Starter Painted 78$
1 X Encounter 6 - Covert Warcamp - Hand Painted ($213)
1 X Double Door Pack - Hand Painted ($19)
1 X Dungeon Ruins Pack - Hand Painted ($67)
1 X Suspension Bridge Pack - Hand Painted ($45)
1 X Natural Bridge - Hand Painted ($49)
1 X Cave Pool Pack - Hand Painted ($87)
1 X Stairway to Violence - Hand Painted ($61)
1 X Stone Banks Packs - Hand Painted ($39)
1 X Trifecta Terrain Pack - Hand Painted ($85)
Terrain trays
~750 + trays

I was happily able to free up some money to expand it, so forests and ice will be on their way among other things now.

Pledge talk for KS2 backers on a budget

Post by zenmaster » Sun Aug 12, 2018 3:40 am

Hi,

I went in for about 2000$ on KS2 with 10 base sets, a bunch of elevation, addons, and dungeon passages.

When I say budget in the thread title, I mean any kind of budget. I realize for some people it is a few hundred dollars and for some a few thousand. My original budget for KS6 caverns was 1000, with an allowance of another 1000 for forest/ice offerings. F

The offerings overall are so attractive, I am looking at adding most of the caverns newness plus some forest and ice.

Here is my current pledge at about my budget of 2000$ shipping to Hong Kong:

Base pledge
1 X Cavern Entrance - Hand Painted ($153)

All Types of Addons
1 X Encounter 6 - Covert Warcamp - Hand Painted ($213)
1 X Hag's Den - Adventure Pack (Encounter 11) - Hand Painted ($56)
1 X Dreadhollow Forest Adventure Pack (Encounter 15) - Hand Painted ($93)
1 X Double Door Pack - Hand Painted ($19)
1 X Rowboat Pack - Hand Painted ($65)
1 X Dungeon Ruins Pack - Hand Painted ($67)
1 X Stalagmite Pack - Hand Painted ($43)
1 X Passages Pack - Hand Painted ($41)
1 X Suspension Bridge Pack - Hand Painted ($45)
1 X Hollow Elevation Blocks - Hand Painted ($19)
1 X Natural Bridge - Hand Painted ($49)
1 X Cave Pool Pack - Hand Painted ($87)
1 X Stairway to Violence - Hand Painted ($61)
1 X Stone Banks Packs - Hand Painted ($39)
1 X Trifecta Terrain Pack - Hand Painted ($85)
1 X Ice Walls Pack - Hand Painted ($68)
1 X Wall Insert Pack - Hand Painted ($44)
1 X Driftstone Pack - Hand Painted ($50)
1 X Cave Cliff Pack - Hand Painted ($106)
2 X Dreadhollow - Bramble Pack - Hand Painted ($54)
1 X Dreadhollow - Cave Mouth Pack - Hand Painted ($66)
1 X Dreadhollow - Escarpment Pack - Hand Painted ($206)
2 X Dreadhollow - Forest Scatter Terrain - Hand Painted ($68)
1 X Dreadhollow - Large Tree Pack - Hand Painted ($69)
1 X Dreadhollow - Small Tree Pack - Hand Painted ($94)
1 X Dreadhollow-Stilt Pack - Hand Painted ($19)
1 X Crooked Caverns Pack - Hand Painted ($57)
1 X Ice Caverns Starter Pack - Hand Painted ($78)
1 X Terrain Trays Cave Water Multi 54
1 X Terrain Trays Hazards Assortment 43
1 X Terrain Trays Ice Catacombs 37
1 X Small Stilts 15

That puts me at 2263 total with shipping.

Assuming forest banks show up in the PM at about 87 roughly, looking at 2350 with this.

Making a lot of budget choices based on what I DON'T want or really need:

Basic floors/walls - getting some in C Warcamp and Entrance. Perfectly happy mixing in KS2 pieces
Vile Mushrooms - no interest
Water Transition - have some Ks2 water, but don't need this. Prefer neg space anyway
Passage Intersection, Ramp, DeadEnd - luxuries I feel I can do without. Getting some passages, convex pieces, widening...
LED wall - No need
Docks - Got a bunch in Forge Prints KS
Fancy and single Doors - Got a lot in Elye's Enter the Dungeon KS (including ruined door!)
Stepped elevation blocks - getting rising pieces with warcamp. Can live without these
Crystal Caverns - Cool, but outclassed by other offerings
Underdoom - Cannot afford alt paint schemes
Forest Floors - far prefer mats for floor coverage at much cheaper price

Hence a current 2350 pledge to get all other newness, enough ice to run encounters or campaign (piecemeal), and some forest scatter terrain.

May still try to get down to 2000. On the bubble:

Escarpments - not crazy about lack of variety in 200$ pack. Wish it were half the size.
Rowboat - I knowbit is pricy but I have no other boats and it looks great, wellmade, and modular
Driftstones - Not sure how much use they will get
Extra Bramble pack - I love freestanding walls and see all sorts of uses for these, though
Stalagmite pack - Have ks2 stalagmites but these look cooler. Diversity is good

Getting rid of escarpments and all but 1 of these smaller packs puts me at 2000 even! I am trying to stick to that budget. Decisions, decisions...
I am just a bit worried the escarpments might not be in webstore much if at all if I ever wanted them. Can't game whether there will be alt/cheaper packs of them in store or future KS. Really wish that pack was half the size...

Anyway, those are my musings and pledge thoughts. Feel free to comment or add your own. I have found sharing observations invaluable in past pledging.
