Here’s their story:

"Just wait, we'll be back in my halls soon enough, and there will be feasting! You'll see," Tormund says with a grin.  

"Should the doors be blasted through, though?" the elf asks, sounding uncomfortable.  

"What?" Tormund says. "Oh no. They better not have been tossing things into the deeps again."  

Because dwarves hold falling to creatures from the deeps to be a time-honored adventure. Right?
